Taking breaks from writing

Has anyone ever taken an extended break from writing? I have. Sometimes I go months without working on my book, and then one day suddenly go back to it and work for weeks. The pattern then continues. Does anyone else have periods like these where they work on and off for extended periods of time?

Yeah, I haven`t been writing that much. Every now and then I`ll look at my story, write a page, and not look at it for weeks.
