I was talking about this with my friend the other and was wondering what other people thought??
i mean it's been so popular and widely read and i dont think there would be anyone who hasnt heard of it etc... do you think it will be looked at as a classic in the future?

First of all, I haven't read all of the Harry Potter series, and in all honest, I never plan to read it all. But from what I have read, and what I hear others talk about, I think it could become a classic. Not because it's so popular, so widely known, no one hasn't heard of it, but because it has themes that last forever. (Er, I'm kind of assuming here. You know, stuff like friendship and love and...yeah.)
A classic for me is defined on two levels. 1) it has a theme that is relevant no matter what the time period. For example, Romeo & Juliet. Even though it was written in the 1500, people who read it in the 2000 still relate to it and understand the theme. 2) The literary professors of Academia and other nonsense have to find something in it to analyze. Some might say if you can't write a lit paper on it, it isn't a classic. But I don't entirely think it's true. I'm not sure if there are any deeper meanings in Harry Potter, but I bet if someone hasn't written a lit paper on it, they will in the near future.
So, maybe it is? I really have no idea.

Harry Potter will be a classic someday.
It's plot and characters can be analyzed to pieces, and it has important themes. Also, the series is actually important on another level as well: exciting the minds of young people who wouldn't have read otherwise.
I'm not a rampant fan of HP. I think they're okay, I've read them all. But what I really admire is how so many young kids started reading because of this series. Some of my friends actually became frequent readers after these books, and my little brother as well. He wouldn't touch a single book before reading HP.
I think for those three reasons, Harry Potter will be considered a classic. -

There are some reasons because people should admire to the author of Harry Potter.
She motivated young kids to read, specially kids whose rarely have read successful a book.
HP will be a classic, of course writer mate.
Let's to celebrate it, when HP will become a classic.
P.d: Possible a big party, where every readers and writers, from all the world, get together in a big place, hehehe.... -
I don't think Harry Potter is a classic at this point.
But I KNOW it WILL be a classic in the future. I think a classic is something all ages can enjoy, and has a hidden meaning to it that you have to look hard for.
I can just picture myself at 80-years-old waving a Harry Potter book infront of my great-grand kids faces saying, "Screw Romeo and Juliet! Now THIS is a real classic for you young wipper snappers!"
