Favorite Character

  1. Who's your favorite character from classic literature? Who do you dislike the most?

Me, I think my favorite is... er, okay, I can't quite think of one. I know for sure though that my least favorite is Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights. Basically? He required a psychoanalysis session from my English class XD
  2. Ariel, from Shakespeare's Tempest, Hercule Poirot (sp?) from some of Agatha Christie's mysteries, Pearl from Scarlet Letter, practically the whole cast of Watership Down, and the monster from Frankenstein.
  3. My favourite? Elizabeth Bennet. I just thought she was so cool, so different. I know the answer's obvious and probably expected, but I really did like her a lot.
  4. If I had to pick one id say Holden Caulfeild from catcher in the rye he is perfectly flawed
  5. Sherlock Holmes counts as a classic, I think? Well, he wins hands down in my book. XD
  6. Sherlock Holmes rocks! I have to agree. He wins. XD
  7. I've got many favorite characters. I'm a great deal too apt to like people in general, you know. (quoted from 'Pride and Prejudice'.)

Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy from 'Pride and Prejudice', Captain Hook, Tootles and Smee from 'Peter Pan', Samwise Gamgee, (Is LotR a classic?) Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester, from (of course) 'Jane Eyre'. I also like Mr. Knightly, from 'Emma', though I'm sorry to say I cannot abide Emma herself. (bows apologetically to all Austen fans everywhere)

Those are the ones I can remember at the moment.

    Goldie

P.S. And yes, Sherlock Holmes is very good too. :)
  8. Of course Tolkien is a classic! And I totally agree about Mr. Knightly and Emma, I wish he'd just dump her and notice me. ;)
  9. *swoons* Mr. Knightly! XD He's such a gentleman! He's way too good for Emma! He needed to marry someone who was...better...lol. XD Samwise gamgee is also an amazing character...so sweet and loving. I would love a best friend like that! And, I would take Mr. Knightly any day! =p
  10. Esther, Deborah, and Judith from the Bible (I'm Buddhist by the way). These women are so strong and brave for saving their people from destruction against all odds.
  11. I've been thinking about this for a while and I think I have no idea...

Probably all of the Karamazov brothers. You could just take one, but they all have strange faults, and I would rather have all three...Er. If having them I am? (woah, freaky backwards structure!)

And I do really like Adam Fenwick-Symes. I feel bad for him. "Poor, poor, Adam."
  12. -Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye
-Nick Carraway and Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby.
-Cal Trask from East of Eden

And more, but those are just four of my all-time favorites.

(Yes, I have a big obsession with 1900's American literature.)

EDIT: I can't believe I forgot him until I saw Cal's post! Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird.

  14. Nathaniel Bumppo aka. "Hawkeye" from The Last of the Mohicans by James Fennimore Cooper

Nattie Bumppo! Aww, Cooper is just awesome. I liked him most in The Pidgeon (an excert from The Pairie, I think?)
  15. Off the top of my head:

    - Hektor, from The Iliad of Homer
    - Orual, from Till We Have Faces (C.S. Lewis counts as classic in my book. :))
    - Atticus Finch, from To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee
    - Mary Bennet, from Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen (She just says the most wtf? stuff... it's hilarious)
    - Cecily, Gwendolen, Algernon, and Jack, from The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde
