My currency has the usual gold and silver coins, but also has jade, quartz and mineraltear (a stone made from a water-chemical mix fossilized) The jade, mineraltear and quartz coins have a hole in the middle of them, and some Territories don't use them, preferring to use just gold and silver. Cutting the gold and silver coins into fractions fractions their worth, so you can be given change.

In my world, the ground is so far below, characters only live in trees, so their currency is amber, carved rings, which are called Johls.
I think amber can be melted and shaped like metal, so it makes sense.
