  1. Welcome to the Fantastic World Builders usergroup. I'm your [s]goddess ruler of the world[/s] leader/moderator, AWritersFantasy. This group will be co-modded by Snap as well.

First thing's first- let's introduce ourselves. You're free to either use the following template to do so, or just go off on a tangent and tell us whatever you want about yourself without using the template. Here it is (you'll have to take the * OUT of it before you post it, otherwise the coding will be all screwed up):

  2. I guess I'll go first. ^_^

Name: My online name is Danielle/Danny/AWritersFantasy
Any nicknames we can call you by: Danny works
    Age: 21
Favorite (fantasy) books/authors: The Sevenwaters Trilogy, by Juliet Marillier
Any current (fantasy) writing projects you're working on right now? What's it about? Archer's Legend. It's about a girl named Kaliyah who finds out that she's one of the last remaining descendants of a race that was almost completely wiped out, and she has to keep them from being killed off.
What is/are your favorite aspect(s) of world building? Honestly, I don't think I really have one. I'm hoping to change that, though.
What's the thing you struggle with the most when it comes to world building? A lot of things...coming up with original ideas for a world, and being able to really be detailed about the people, races, cultures...
What's the best thing you think you're good at when it comes to world building? Umm...I don't know at the moment. o.O
    Anything else? Nope!
  3. *jumps in excitement*

    Name: Writersdomain/Stevanie
Any nicknames we can call you by: Usually WD or Stevi
    Age: 16
Favorite (fantasy) books/authors: My favorite fantasy authors are Robin Hobb, Stephen Lawhead, Alison Croggon, CS Lewis, and, of course, dear Tolkien.
Any current (fantasy) writing projects you're working on right now? What's it about? (Try to give a brief summary) Erm, I am mulling over two new fantasy stories - The Glaive and Thunder of Lecraesa. And they're... complicated. In very brief summary, The Glaive is about a man known as The Glaive, an individual enslaved by a person known as The Master and sent to take and save lives according to The Master's will. Thunder of Lecraesa is a continuation of Flames and Tears, telling the story of Coglia.
What is/are your favorite aspect(s) of world building? I love creating worlds; they make fantasy so rich and give it a beautiful sense of culture. I also love setting a scene, which often ties into world building for me.
What's the thing you struggle with the most when it comes to world building? Well, there are always bits of my world lacking in development, and I have a hard time developing a world at first. I want to try creating a world before getting too far into a story this time around.
What's the best thing you think you're good at when it comes to world building? Um, I would like to think that I'm best at creating the characters in the context of the world and the history behind each individual element of culture and conflict.
Anything else? Post-it notes are great for notetaking

What is/are your favorite aspect(s) of world building? The places, the culture, the natives, the landscape, the history
What's the thing you struggle with the most when it comes to world building? Putting a story to the world I've imagined
What's the best thing you think you're good at when it comes to world building? Strange worlds, realistic concepts
Anything else? Nope, except I only ever dream up worlds, I never end up writing stories to go with them
  5. Yay! New usergroup, new usergroup!! Guess I should lay off the caffeine. :)

As Danny said, I'll be co-modding, though it looks like she's already doing an excellent job. Okay, I guess it's my turn.

    Name Bella
    Nickname Snap
    Age 18
Favorite (fantasy) books/authors Well, CS Lewis and Tolkein (duh) Jk Rowling (also duh) The His Dark Materials series, although the author escapes me at the moment. :)
Any current (fantasy) writing projects you're working on right now? What's it about? (Try to give a brief summary) I'm working on one that involves time travel, so it's more or less fantasy. :) I'm also thinking of starting another that'll be urban fantasy.
What is/are your favorite aspect(s) of world building? Having a whole other world in which to place my character. One that, hopefully, I can transport my reader to through my writing.
What's the thing you struggle with the most when it comes to world building? Where to begin. I have a hard time with the BIG picture, even though all of the details seem to fall into place.
What's the best thing you think you're good at when it comes to world building? The concepts, I think. Making them believable and adaptable to my storyline.
Anything else? Nothing interesting, really. My storyline tends to come first, and then I decide to make a world to go with it, although it doesn't happen very often. :)

What is/are your favorite aspect(s) of world building? Knowing that I am a outlet to a world many would only think about knowing.
What's the thing you struggle with the most when it comes to world building? Time. :P
What's the best thing you think you're good at when it comes to world building? Places and legends.
    Anything else? No.

Now his powers are manifesting like crazy and he is taken to Atlantis to learn how to control his powers. Now he is trying to uncover the secrets of his parents, learn how to control his powers, and attempt to understand why he seems to be so important.
What is/are your favorite aspect(s) of world building? I enjoy creating the unbreakable rules for a world. Like what can and cannot be accomplished.
What's the thing you struggle with the most when it comes to world building? Probably making the world believable.
What's the best thing you think you're good at when it comes to world building? Making them unique to a certain extent.

What is/are your favorite aspect(s) of world building? Just the feeling of being a god - creating a world, and different peoples to live in it - it's such a feeling of satisfaction
What's the thing you struggle with the most when it comes to world building? Names, they can get so annoying, having to think of new ones all the time
What's the best thing you think you're good at when it comes to world building? Races, and countries - ie. the laws of the couuntry, etc

Any current (fantasy) writing projects you're working on right now? What's it about? (Try to give a brief summary) Right now I'm working on one called Under the Mountain, and am almost done. It is (in a very very very very very short summary) about a goblin war. The reason I joined this group though, is for the story that I have begun to develope for my next novel :D.
What is/are your favorite aspect(s) of world building? Definitely making up the characters/soldiers uniforms, weapons, armor, and all that fun stuff :D.
What's the thing you struggle with the most when it comes to world building? Well, my worlds usually (err...always) sound like this: to the north there are plains and in the middle there forests and then even further north there's desert. Just...boring.
What's the best thing you think you're good at when it comes to world building? Ummmmmm...names I guess.
Anything else? I need help with making up my world for my future story. I also need help making up the cultures/creatures of the different places.
  10. Name: Katerina
Any nicknames we can call you by: Tanis
    Age: 16
Favorite (fantasy) books/authors: Tamora Pierce, Tracy Hickman, Margaret Weis, and a few others I can't remember right now.
Any current (fantasy) writing projects you're working on right now? What's it about? (Try to give a brief summary) Ummm well there both untitled as of yet, I'm having a bit of trouble coming up with one I like. The first one follows a sixteen year old girl in a world recently taken over by a king from a neighboring country. After an attack on her village she escapes with her best friend and start a rebelliion to take their country back.
The other is about a sidhe girl who isn't about to let her race or those not human be exterminated. At first the other races could care less as theirs aren't being targeted, but as the story progresses they come to Alana and eventually band together to take out the human leader. This could change though, its changed about three times already.
What is/are your favorite aspect(s) of world building? none really.
What's the thing you struggle with the most when it comes to world building? naming the territories, culture, etc.
What's the best thing you think you're good at when it comes to world building? nothing
    Anything else? nope

Black Mancer investigations, follows the story of the Harlequin (who's a sort of magical version of time lord if anyone knows doctor who) told through the eyes of Seth Harrington as she attempts to track down a threat to her existence. Set in modren earth but with a spattering of magic.

What is/are your favorite aspect(s) of world building? Mountains. Easily.

What's the thing you struggle with the most when it comes to world building? Names. :?

What's the best thing you think you're good at when it comes to world building? Inventing power struggles (if that comes into here that is)

Anything else? Kudos to Dany for finally making a usergroup like this. :D

    Anything else?nope ;)
  13. Name: Kelle/Kelly

Any nicknames we can call you by: CL or Cal

    Age: 20

Favorite (fantasy) books/authors: Too many. *grins* Off the top of my head -- The Legend of Nightfall & The Return of Nightfall by Mickey Zucker Reichert, Neil Gaiman, The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley, Beauty by Robin McKinley, Blue Sword by Robin McKinley, Lloyd Alexander, Bruce Coville, etc, etc, etc....

Any current (fantasy) writing projects you're working on right now? What's it about? (Try to give a brief summary): Hedgewitch is the current current project, although I have a few on the back burner (Brier Gods, Twilight, [Michael short fiction], etc...). Hegdewitch is about this girl Evangeline (Angie) whose mother disappeared suspiciously when she was really young. While on vacation at her aunt's, she stumbles about another world, complete with a sarcastic, snarky, oh-so-not-noble unicorn.

What is/are your favorite aspect(s) of world building? The culture and the physical aspects like scenery as well as how the world works, how it exists.

What's the thing you struggle with the most when it comes to world building? I go way too overboard, and somehow sink my worlds or spread them too thin, or overload myself.

What's the best thing you think you're good at when it comes to world building? Probably the culture bit, or creating histories.

Anything else? Hopefully, I'll actually finish something soon.

What's the thing you struggle with the most when it comes to world building? Names of things
What's the best thing you think you're good at when it comes to world building? This is the first time I've tried it, so I wouldn't know
Anything else? I'm not usually a fantasy writer, but I'm giving this novel my best shot, even though it'll be quite short. I seem to have picked up a talent for childrens fantasy.

Edit: edited by AWritersFantasy to fix coding. :)
