I've been a fan of Lovecraft for some time now, admittedly just a minor fan with a lot to learn, but if anything, I've been heavily influenced by the man.
In his lifetime, he encouraged and in a way was complimented by people expanding upon his works.
I've been wanting to work on a Lovecraftian work of fiction for a while, and have even created, then scrapped a short story, originally called, "The Call of Cthulhu, Rise of the Deep Ones."
It fell apart.
However, I would like to re-work it and create a new concept.
World War one was one of the influences on Lovecraft; the wholesale slaughter and medical nightmare of trench warfare and the cyclic politics and diplomacy of the time served as another glimpse of mankind's pettiness and stupidity, as well as it's assumed self-importance.
In this new concept, an American doughboy who encounters Cthulu cultists while participating in a secret military observation mission within the then existing Ottoman Empire is forced to kill several of the cultists and even destroy an odd altar they had been worshiping.
It follows him during the mission, after the war, and in subsequent years as he is slowly drawn into the world of the Mythos.
I'd like some feedback on the concept.
Concept for Lovecraftian horror series.

I'm lost; was this concept one you came up with, or was it Lovecraft's idea?

A concept based on Lovecraft's works and themes

I like the idea. There's no more terrifying setting than the trenches of WW1. He can move from horror, to unimaginable horror. My one piece of advice is to just make sure he runs into something that can't be solved with bullets.

I love Lovecraft! This is quite a good concept for a Lovecaftian story and I would love to see it! One question, does the doughboy eventually meet Cthulu? If he does, that would be amazing!
