pebble's poetic ponderings

3 posts in this topic.

  1. I've decided to make a new thread in here as I feel my poetry has greatly improved since I made my first thread back in 2023. I also plan on being much more active in this club and wanted a fresh start :)

  2. poem for the 5/29/26 prompt
blueberries, watermelon, lemons, a handful of strawberries, and the summer sun bright in your eyes

    It All Blends Together
Sun splashes into eyes full of memories
Like past selves tiny in backyard kiddie pools
So big with the full-world feeling
Like water guns and watermelon slices could solve anything
Round the bend, blue sky brims wide
    Dripping down invisible, imperceptibly
Old horizons blocked by jutting mountains
New concrete buildings cover strawberry patches
But you can remember, take a handful, bite into it
Juice stings, streams down your chin
Like pink lemonade stands, every summer
Citrus washes away tears, here's the blue in your eyes
    Reflecting ocean, pool, atmosphere over
Like cartons of blueberries lining the counter
    In grandparents' kitchen now nonexistent
Forget that and watch these clouds, again
  3. poem for 6/12/26 prompt
What would you put in a spaceship headed to outer space?

    text version:

    Sending Into Space:
    capsule 1:
    1. All my thoughts of you, and you, and you
    2. The notes, the playlists, the art I made for you
    (I'm keeping the poems)
    3. The first kiss I gave for your benefit, not mine,
and all subsequent somethings I pressed to your face
    4. The association with you I added to everything
    5. Everything planetary; I thought you were a holy body
    6. All with the oceans; so I am no longer anchored to you
    7. The secret things held between only our hands
    a. the name I called you
    b. our inside jokes
    c. text threads
    d. songs with stupid special meanings
    e. everything we thought was meant just for us
    8. Every owned drop of personality I naively gifted to you

    capsule 2:
    9. Your gallons of things you had to say
which I kept to understand you
    10. That same understanding that escapes me like a ghost
    11. The ghost of your laugh, haunting me and unforgettable
    12. The ghost of you, alive and sitting with my friends across the room
    13. This number I held for you; you don't deserve it
    14. Double the number you stole from me, no cares, no thoughts, only you
    15. Poisonous thoughts you planted like seeds, however hard to find, without thinking
    16. Tears I held back as you shed yours freely
    17. All the worries I had, so unfounded
when your discomfort would flood me anyway
    18. Any rainbows I shared with you, any secrets you find distasteful, unnecessary
    19. Anything you shared with me when I was always only unnecessary
    20. The empathy pity? I held for you as you cried
staring me in the eyes, angry, demanding apologies instead of forgiveness

Do just once what others say you can't do, and you will never pay attention to their limitations again.
