Elevator Pitch
Faraz and Ikram were the best of friends as kids, climbing every tree, trying everything, and annoying the uncles with their endless shouting. Seven years later, Faraz returns to Pakistan with his parents and brothers for a visit. They’ve both changed so much, grown like the mango tree they once stood beneath for a picture all those years ago.
The novel is told from Ikram’s point of view, with her growing awareness of Faraz—the dimple in his left cheek, his slightly crooked smile. She begins to wonder if those childhood moments they shared might have meant something more. And maybe, just maybe, Faraz remembers them too when he looks at her. -
Main Character(s)
Ikram NadeemSpoiler
Ikram isn’t someone who walks through life with purpose. She’s a thinker, a daydreamer, an eccentric. Her experiences in high school and listening to the news have convinced her that people are two-faced and that true goodness doesn’t exist. But meeting Faraz again, seeing the kind of person he’s become, makes her realize that real goodness is possible. She feels an overwhelming urge to become more like him because he embodies the person she’s been searching for—and now she wants to be that person for the people in her life.
Unlike Faraz, Ikram finds it difficult to express love openly, whether with family or friends. She gets impatient with younger people, and she hasn’t been the best daughter. Faraz, on the other hand, is everything she isn’t—kind, patient, and open-hearted. Ikram is deeply self-aware but lacks the motivation to change, until she meets him again.
Faraz AarizSpoiler
Faraz is the kind of person who seems perfect in every way—always ready to give, never demanding perfection from others or from himself. He embraces every oddity as a unique trait. He listens to his parents, who are his biggest fans, and he’s close with his brothers. He loves kids and playing with them. His enthusiasm for life is contagious—curious, eager to learn, and excited to try everything.
One thing Ikram notices about him is how, when he’s not talking, he watches people with such focus, as if he sees them in a way others don’t. He’s intelligent and admired by everyone around him.
(I will try to figure out some of his weaknesses too but lol I can’t think of any right now.) -

Spooky Challenges
1. What does the setting of your novel look like in the fall? Does it even have seasons?
My novel IS set in fall! There isn’t one setting because there’s going to be a lot of travel, but Ikram’s home is where the story starts, so I’ll describe that. The whole house is carpeted. The dining room has a ceiling to floor window through which the garden can be seen. The garden is a little overgrown. The lounge has blue sofas, a blue table, two vases on the table. The lounge also has some quillings done by Ikram’s mother.
2. If your main character existed on Earth in a place that celebrates Halloween, what would they do? (Ex: go trick-or-treating, give out candy, hide in the house with the lights off…)
Faraz would be giving out candies GENEROUSLY. Ikram would be hoarding candies all for herself and pondering on why a person would ever do something as shocking as GIVE them away. She’d also scare her youngest brother a bit— just for the kicks. -
4. Choose a character and describe a fall outfit of theirs, or how they would dress up for Halloween.
Ikram is a huge fan of the Harry Potter books and movies, and she is obsessed with Severus and lily and specially everything that involves Severus Snape. Faraz loves Harry Potter too. Just imagine Faraz dressing up like Severus for Ikram— but that’s probably not happening.
5. Pick two characters with some kind of relationship (family, partners, enemies) and describe an activity they’d do in the fall.
Ikram’s sister would convince her to do origami with her. Her youngest brother would join them, and they’d make something like fall themed origami bookmarks or tiny diaries. His origami wouldn’t turn out so well, so Ikram would give the things she makes to him, and when the older brother (younger than Ikram) teases her about going soft she would deny it and look really disgusted because being cheesy is not acceptable for her at all.
