Finding credible sources for your research paper or essay can be a real pain. I’m here to share with you what is definitely NOT a credible source, where you can check whether or not the sources is credible, as well as give you some credible ones to try.
What is not credible: Wikipedia. Anyone can come onto the site, edit and change it. It can be useful and have good information when you are trying to quickly research something for yourself, but don’t credit it as a source!
Yahoo answers, wiki answers… anything answers. Once again, anyone can subscribe to the site and change the message!
Ehow. Although it’s a good site when you need little guides for yourself, it isn’t credible.
Watch out for personal blogs they usually aren’t credible. If it’s an official one, then it isn’t.
Credible sources:
One that I personally like to use is about.com Credible sources covering many topics. If you research any online scholarly database, they’re perfectly credible too. For example: oxfordjournals.org or jstor.org (and not only because they end in org!)
Online newspaper articles are credible as well. Good science sites are web of science and pubmed.
If you need to check the credibility of a source, just go into easybib.com You can paste in the url, and press cite this. It’s entirely free and says if the source is 100% credible or may be credible. It’s also handy if you need to cite your sources in an official bibliography format. All you have to do is fill in the spaces, and it creates it for you!
