I'm just curious about what kind of practice everyone here does with their art x).
I assume that at least a few of you take art classes in school, and I know some of you plan to study art in college. But what do you do to practice at home? What study techniques do you have?
As for me, I pretty much just took art up as a hobby and draw whatever I feel like, but I have put effort into improving things like anatomy and coloring so I have done research on that. I've never really taken an art class before so everything I do is experimental. I use lots of photo reference for my drawings and study those. I've also bought a few how to draw books, including one on anatomy and one that's manga-styled. I also buy an art magazine called ImagineFX that focuses on sci-fi/fantasy digital art.
So that's pretty much all I do, but I'm wondering how you guys go about practicing, and if it helps! Any thoughts?

I've noticed that every time I start a new comic... (which I never complete by the way) I draw a lot, lots of characters, same ones several times. Then when I flip back to my first page, I can see the improvement in the figures by comparing it to the last page. So everytime I sorta 'leval up' in drawing, it means I've just recently written another comic(of course, never finished it though =P)
That and the fact that I can always draw things I love most. If not once, then I'll try it again, then I'll try something similar to it. I'll keep trying and on the fourth or fifth try I'll be able to do it. (It's the love for the things I want to draw that keeps me from getting bored =])
That's pretty much it... I think. Oh, and I used to watch youtube videos on drawing, painting, etc. That helps too! =) -
Well...I went to art school for five years..starting from when I was like five or six and after finishing my five year course I am on my own...experimenting...practising..etc..etc. Also I collect few how to books on art and photography...and read a lot of mangas as well...and I ask my relatives to review my drawings as well. You see my gandpa was a botanist...progesaor sort of and his plant

Woah, Erza. O.O Five years?
Well, I studied Art till 10th grade in school. Just normal Art class with drawing and painting and sculpting and etc.
And then, I decided not to study it anymore since I wasn't really interested in the type of Art that was taught. Now, I just teach myself to draw using references and tutorial apps. xD
I guess I see improvement and I always show my friends what I draw. That way, I know what to fix and how to fix it.
And it doesn't hurt having an Art genius friend either.

Twinky- I used to watch a ton of youtube speedpaints and they helped me so much with getting used to digital art
There's something really cool about just watching someone else draw.
Erza- that's awesome that must be pretty sweet having kinda grown up with art and always had it in your life
aqua- yeah, for some reason all classroom-taught art stuff never interested me either, probably because I'm drawn to more manga or surreal things and that's not really looked at in school much x/ -
I had to take art lessons separately...our school just did not teach art....and well I first learnt to draw and after that I was taught to write....and my favorite place to draw when I was a toddler were the walls of the sitting room and the bedroom...lol...imagine the reaction of the guests when they entered the sitting room....lol

@Aqua-I totally thought I was the art genius friend and then I was like....Bryan,right.
I'm the same as aqua except I continued on with art after 10th grade....just because I'm crazy like that.
I still do a lot mysellf though and also just do a bunch of random stuff with paints....TADA! -
I home school.
My brother had me do Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain (1st version), and that kind of got me on my way with drawing.
I haven't practiced in a while though . . . .
I just kind of draw at random now. -
Skye- what kind of paints? I've only really used watercolor before x)
Black- I don't really know what Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain is, is that a special kind of warm-up or drawing technique?
