The Young Writers Literary Journal ("YWLJ"), started in 2008, is the publication of the Young Writers Society, an online community for young writers ages 13 and up. We have published three issues and will be publishing our fourth in Summer 2015. Our sole aim is to promote and showcase the best work by writers ages 21 and under.
The YWLJ is managed by its editor-in-chief, Nathan Caldwell, as well as a team of editors, who carefully review all submissions.
Nathan is the founder of the Young Writers Society, operating the site since 2004. He lives in Northern Virginia, enjoys reading narrative non-fiction, and is an avid backpacker. He also plays a lot of bocce ball.
Alexa spends most of her free time collecting random facts which she proceeds to use in either her world building, or helping others with theirs. The end result is acting like a human Google. When not writing something or other, she spends her time dancing or watching big booms (aka Mythbusters) and crime shows. You can find more of her advice at http://rosegardenwriting.blogspot.ca.
Amanda is an English major at Peru State College. She enjoys working in the theatre as a stage manager, and when she’s not doing that, she’s probably writing rad poetry reviews or cuddling a cat.
Angela majored in Secondary Education for Communication Arts and Literature in America, so naturally she now teaches ESL at a kindergarten in China. Her writing niche is poetry, her reading niche is words, and now and then music. When she isn’t singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with four-year-olds, you might find her reading up on current events, hiding behind her camera, or trying new foods such as cow stomach or frog-on-a-stick.
EB is a twenty-year old textile designer, occasionally working as freelance illustrator, and balancing her studies and voluntary work whenever not working on one of her novels. She traditionally enjoys long conversations with her cast of characters, and writes their stories under a couple of pseudonyms - the most often one is Aria Adams, which she can also be found using across the web. She's currently working on the big novel project she's hoping to eventually publish, and in her free time takes care of her lizard and dwells on her blog - http://thetypewritertongues.weebly.com/ - as well as various social networks.
Having written since she was little, Ellie is very excited to be an editor for the literary journal. Currently a college student on the east coast, she constantly seeks to challenge herself in new ways.
Heather is a Gazette Editor and Technical Assistant, living in Reading in the UK. She thrives on fantasy and satire but can be found dabbling in other genres and is also a poet. Her hobbies outside of writing include strategy gaming (both board-games and PC), baking, swimming and snowman building.
Kellie Davis is an eighteen-year-old student who aspires to become a kindergarten teacher. Nearly four wonderful years has passed since she first joined the Young Writers Society and every day on the site brings her new friends and new skills to apply to her writing. Her favorite books are If I Stay by Gayle Forman and The Host by Stephanie Meyer.
Lauren Kocher is a first year MFA candidate in fiction writing at Columbia College Chicago. Her fiction has appeared in Luna Station Quarterly and The Memory Eater: Stories that Erase the Past to Save the Future.
Ruan is a seventeen-year-old high school student from Cape Town, South Africa. Although he loves reading short stories and fantasy novels, he also enjoys playing chess and listening to Classical music. His favourite animals are the wolf and the tiger.
Siiri is a 22-year-old translator student from Finland. She loves cats, polka dots, and music from the 90s. Her favourite book is The Catcher in the Rye, although she also greatly enjoys light reads such as the Shopaholic series. You will rarely catch her without sporting some of her nail art creations.
