@FamelicosFudgel I've found this Knowledge Base article by @Aley to be super helpful when it comes to finding the effect of punctuation in poetry. ( Punctuation in Poetry )
I guess the main advice I'd give is if in doubt, or if you completely don't know what to do - just do whatever is conventionally grammatically correct (which you can often figure out by plopping the poem into word and reading the lines as sentences). If you want to go a level up from that, think about punctuation in three main ways,
1) how it changes the meaning or adds clarity to the sentence or phrase (ie. do you need a comma or period to make the phrasing make sense?)
2) how it changes the flow of the piece (ie. periods or semi-colons mid-line create pauses and more choppiness)
3) how it changes the appearance of the piece (ie. if you have exclamations and random dashes the piece will appear messy and hectic)
Hope that helps!
