This was originally just a little fancy that entered my mind a while ago. You see, I sometimes like to enter a poetry forum and then read peices that are ages old. And I thought to myself that YWS is not really as big as it looks. As in- we are all closely connected to each other and it's easy to have people admiring styles of others that have been influenced from somewhere else and it all comes together here in these refreshingly young forums.
Now at this point, I could be making serious misjudgements so just take it as, well, amateur observations. These are just some points that I thought maybe bringing poetry to a different form inside YWS-

1)Well, we are all young. And that already speaks a lot about our styles. There is a somewhat raw and sometimes careless depiction of our thoughts and emotions. I could say that if we are impressed by the forms that we read here, we might carry it in us even when we write in the future as adults. Certainly, there is energy in most of the peices I have seen, and a kind of eagerness.

2)Society, as it is right now, may have more of an impact on younger minds than older ones. Family matters, school and relationship frustrations, movies........I hope you get it.

3)The forums are reasonably old. So some people have had time to develop their styles and develop peices while under the effect of YWS's radioactive influence.

4)I've happened to have watched some poets evolve their style from the good old emotional (y'know, 'emo' but I don't prefer the word) style to more refined versions. So I think that there is a bit of the former in all of us.

5)Personally speaking, I'd say Jack the Firestarter would be a good example of YWS poetry or for that matter, poetry of this generation. His peices seem to balance wonderfully between Brad's specialised dramatics (has he ever posted a narrative or lyric?) and the raw emotions of what we have come to call cliche, emo poems. Some non-poetic people have also appreciated his work. It's rather like the more sensitive bands that write good lyrics and make good music.

6)Incandescence (well it was coming anyway). Undoubtedly someone seasoned and professional in his work, he seems to have fun in most of his works anyway. I read a particularly baffling one called "Ready your swords" where he took a quote and apparently gave the speaker a dressing down. But then a certain Chevy comes along and seems to look through what that poem is about. Taking examples may not be the best way to say this but I was coming to the point where I say- "You see, I told you people know each other really well here".

7)I like to look at some of the poets in the site as little factions. I'm sure people here haven't actually formed styles similar to each other (I know because I've never written a poem with YWS in mind) but I've used some imagination here. When I read backgroundbob and Xanthan, for instance, I think of them as similar or connected in a way. No, well not really. Aaargh I'm confusing myself. She uses a very detached method but bob seems even more detached, rather like he was writing the bible and she was making a travel guide. You may see from here, that my word is not something to go by- I'm being horribly free about things that people may have been working on for years.
Other connections I draw up include..........You know what? I'd rather not do this as I'm sure I'll offend somebody. If you feel I should continue then please tell me so.

Until then, I'm sure somebody else must have thought something along these lines before. If you have anything to add, anything to say about your own or someone else's poetry, please go ahead. And do tell me what you think of what I've said so far while keeping in mind that I donno a thing.
