There is no specified time period. But now, this'll only mean researching for fun because School Exhibition was yesterday and I gave in Ben Hur, War of the Worlds and Gone with the Wind. I also considered Guns of Navarone but couldn't collect any material on that. Thanx anyway.
Apocalypse now was based on the Heart of Darkness, but the Heart of Darkness had nothing to do with Vietnam. He was travelling up a river in Africa in the book. I dont think it qualifies.
Jarhead was based on a book by the same name.
Saving Private Ryan I believe was based on a piece of literature by the same name
Footsteps in the Sand was about the invasion of Normandy Beach.
The Patriot was based on letters home from civil war solders.
For centuries, theologians have been explaining the unknowable in terms of the-not-worth-knowing.

All Quiet on the Western Front. I can't remember the author, but the movie has the same name. It is a brilliant, and horribly sad film. I've not had a chance to read much of the book.
Jarhead is a very good book.[ I reccomend it to anybody who reads nonfiction]
The movie recently came out, as you probably know.
Here's some other books/movies I can think of.
-Black Hawk Down
-All Quiet on the Western Front
-We Were Soldiers Once...And Young *the movie title is shotened to "We Were Soldiers"
Hmm. Does it count if it takes place during a war? Because Schindler's List = amazing. Plus it has Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson, which is always an added bonus.
I also considered Guns of Navarone but couldn't collect any material on that.
What kind of material were you looking for?
"He yanked himself free and fled to the kitchen where something huddled against the flooded windowpanes. It sighed and wept and tapped continually, and suddenly he was outside, staring in, the rain beating, the wind chilling him, and all the candle darkness inside lost."
smaur, Is Schindler's List a book? I didn't know. Who's it written by. Well, the book sure didn't get as much recognitionas the movie did.
All Quiet on the Western Front was written by Erich Maria Remarque. I remember because that's a name I find easy to remember, I don't know why.
