“Yes’m,” he murmured. He’d believe that when he saw it. Which he wouldn’t live to see it. This was finally going to be the thing to do him in. He’d gotten Ky to help. That’s all he was needed for. He exhaled sharply as she hit one of his particularly tender ribs.

Sera withdrew immediately. "You're sore there?" she asked. "How bad?"

“It’s… it’s fine.” Tadaaki closed his eyes and shook his head.

"Evidently not." She prodded it again. "You've got a broken rib there..." Her hands moved up his chest. "On both sides. You poor thing. We'll get that bound up as soon as you're warmed."

She moved on to Aleth, checking him over. The second she saw his feet she grimaced. "You've got four toes frostbitten," she told him.

"Once they're warm enough they're going to start to smell," Sera told him. "They'll get infected, and your whole foot will rot off. Do you want that?"

"We'll see to that once you're warmed up." She moved back to Ky after taking stock of the rest of Aleth.

Ky sensed her presence and shrank even further under these blankets of death. They were an oven, but perhaps they would block whatever other nastiness was coming. It’d probably hurt less if she decided to hit her through all the blankets.

"I'm just going to check you for injuries," she told her, beginning.

Fear spiked through Ky, stabbing from her chest all the way through her gut. Which did not in fact make this feel any better. Ky’s abdominal muscles clenched as the woman’s fingertips pressed against her lowest rib. It hurt. Which reminded her she wasn’t supposed to make noise. Whimpering about pain just caused more pain.
