My first attempt at pastels. It's not finished, but I had an issue. See blog for details. In any case, this was more of me trying to learn how pastels worked on paper. Having learned, here it is:

^_^ I like the fire a lot, but I think the hair could do with a little more distinction. Pretty cool otherwise. =P Pastels are so messy, you avoided smudging well.

This is really good, but I think ou could make the hair more vibrant and 'alive', like Valor said. This would make it feel more, whoa.

You used those pastels marvelously though; I hate patels, I end up walking from art class with my face full of pastel smudges.

very nice, especially the fire! =]

one tip i'd give you though when using pastels, is that it's best when using colour to avoid using black. I guess it's cause it clashes with the colours, or something.. but that's what my art teacher has always said.

Aye, I agree. The hair could use a bit of detail, a bit more life. But I am in awe because pastels = hard. xD

I think the proportions are nice, although the eye is a bit big. The flames are a nice touch as well. But you smudged the shirt! I see red mixed with green! ;)

Haha. I'm just giving you a hard time. It's a lovely little painting, though. ^_^

I love the background. The smokey black is really nice and the fire looks great.

I love the colour of the eye it's really pretty.

This is a really nice piece, and you made the pastels work for you--beautifully! Can ya teach me to use pastels? ;)
I think could work on the jaw a bit, but other than that, I think it is georgeous!

Hehe! I loved that effect with pastels, I am terrible with them. :wink:

Nice drawing! Love the background, the effects, etc. My only problem is the skin tone on the face, it seems a bit creepy. I like the site effect between the colours also, that has a great feel to it.

First attempt. Nice job.


Can't say much about the paints and colors and all that, but I have seen a lot of paintings and if this is your first attempt then it is a worthy first attempt.


I'd say keep attempting because you can only get better and I'd love to see how you progress on here. Would be interesting to see it, b/c you obviously have some feel for what your doing!
