more language warnings because CELESTE
“It’s not running from my problems, always, and also it usually works out for me.” She downed the second shot and shook out her short, carnation curls. “You know I don’t shy from a fight.” She wiggled her fingers after she set the shot glass back down in front of Pan. “I’ll tackle them as they come as I need to.”
“I’m not giving you any more,” they said, pushing her glass to the side. “Nobody could ever call you a coward, Celeste, that’s not what I meant. I just mean that maybe you want to stop sprinting everywhere and take a moment to breath.”
She snatched their half-full shot glass and threw it back. Pan sighed loudly as she grinned at them, handing back their glass. “But I like sprinting.” She leaned on the counter and exhaled, pleasantly warmed with the edges of her mind softening. “I’m okay. I am. Promise. I’ll…explain it when I figure out how, yeah? It’s fucking bonkers.”
They smiled, quiet. Gentle. “I trust you,” they said. They set the bottle under the counter, out of sight, and pushed their glass aside next to hers. “Even though sometimes, of the two of us, I think you’ll be arrested first.”
She snorted. “I’m not the one helping to run an illegal, underground fighting club dedicated to the only goddess banned in Esparona.”
“But you are the one who can’t resist something shiny if someone’s left it out on a table. And who has a problem with authority. I seem to remember one time having to beg one of the Peacemakers that you were drunk and too rowdy when you nearly cold-cocked him.”
Thoughts:
man it sure was a day to get distracted by everything
but I had a much better time then yesterday! maybe I'll just keep oscillating between having a Bad Time and having a Good one. Celeste's voice still escapes me, although I feel like I'm maybe starting to get it. I'm in a weird place where Celeste is really not one to focus on her problems or confront Big Feelings (as she says in the snippet), but she still thinks about them occasionally, and it feels empty when I then say that she tends to run from her problems?? idk. I'm trying to find a balance. She's all over the place (which, tbf, is very Celeste).
I was, at first, worried she would just be a Discount Ember, but now that I've started writing her, I can already tell they're wildly different, especially as Ember grows up. They're both loud, brash women, but they have pretty wildly different personalities.
Also, I threw a handful of characters that didn't exist until yesterday until, well, yesterday, and I already love Alkmaion???? he's a dummy, I adore him. him and Celeste are machines of chaos that amplify the other. neither of them have brain cells.
I also did find a d&d word crawl which is very neat, I get to roll many dice and it pleases me greatly. I'm too lazy to post about it here like I was in the Beehive, but I might update how the journey is going (even if I'm rebelling a little from the rules, since there's some stuff that it says to do that I,, just don't gotta).
