Island Magic OOC
The World of MDMV
The world is massive. Make up any country you want where your character can be from. Other characters may also know of the other character's countries, but there are no rules to how the countries are developed as long as it's reasonable. It's vaguely earth-like in terms of geography.
The world is also split two ways. About half the population has magic and half doesn't. Those who have magic are legally required to enroll in a Magic-Friendly school to develop their skills.
People born with magic are born with one particular set of skills, similar to how superheroes have one "power" or a similar set of related powers.
Everyone, regardless of magic or not, has to go through an official evaluation as a young adult by the maximum age set by their country's laws. This determines where they're going to be placed in society and will affect their social rank, career opportunities, financial prospects, and even where they will live and what circles they might find themselves in. Those with magic are required to be tested by the DMV: Determiner of Magical Valor. The United Magicians (UM) is in charge of organizing where students are sent to take the DMV and issue out their assignments in their last semester. Transportation is provided for, and they are legally required to attend and contact their local UM Representative to make sure arrangements are made and things run smoothly. If students fail to show there are repercussions - and if further resistance is made to avoid the test, charges will be pressed and they will be forced to serve time.
How the MDMV Will Run
There will be four stages. The first month will be just as advertised and explained in the summons. But, at the start of the second month, the real test will kick into gear.
1. Magical Tests and Social Bonding (1 month)
- - Magical Training/Classes that involve AI teachers and tests.
- Social Events organized by the MDMV Director, Maeve. Invitations are sent to each student's assigned residence.
- Cameras follow students around, and they are aware there are hidden cameras everywhere to catch interactions, conversations, and the like.
- Interviews are held w/students in irregular intervals, depending on what happens, how students connect, etc. They are televised.
2. Secret Challenge 1 (2 weeks)
- Suddenly, the vibes change entirely. Instead of being a day-in-the-life vacation, they realize this is actually a very real reality show that could alter their futures. They are now given tests to test their character and their strengths related to their magic and/or role they will be given. Each test will come with a prize.
A challenge is issued to each student in the form of a secret note. It is made clear that there are penalties for exposing your challenge/assignment, for this week and the future. You are forbidden to speak of it.
The first challenge is rather tame but achievable.
3. Secret Challenge 2 (2 weeks)
- The second challenge amps up the drama, asking the student to do something more daring with their powers - or, potentially, ethically/morally questionable.
4. Secret Challenge 3 (1 month)
- This challenge will have the most relational risk, risking the character's new friendships but will post the most reward. If they accomplish it, they are promised a very cushy life on the other side of the MDMV.
If a competitor fails to complete their challenge, instead of a prize, there is a CONSEQUENCE!!!!! Consequences are chosen by the audience watching. (This will be all of us as writers, we'll all vote on a consequence for the character, the writer of said character not included. DRAMATIC!!!!)
How do the interviews work?
There isn't really a set of rules for the interviews. Think of any sitcom that has interviews, and apply the same logic in this RP. If you think it would be valuable to have a brief cutscene of an interview, then feel free to include it in the post. You can separate the present post and the interview scene with a page break.
