After discussion amongst the moderators (moderators = JMs and mods), points have been turned off for Storybooks and the Debate Group. This does not mean you have to pay to post there now! It's still free to post, but you don't get anything for posting.

When we added points, it was done to encourage critiquing and activity in certain areas of the board. Back then, storybooks was dormant. Now it's by far the busiest forum and the third most popular area of the site overall (not including the home page). Allowing members to continue to earn points in storybooks subverts the idea behind points, so it's been turned off for now.

EDIT

With regards to the Debate Group, that area of the site is going to be active no matter what. Since you don't critique there and because there's no need to encourage activity there, points have also been turned off there for now.

I think it's an excellent idea. I was actually a little confused by the system of gaining points for posting in storybooks but that makes sense now.

Never really though about storybook points...never really think about points at all, actually...it would probably bring me closer to maths than I want to be...I guess it makes sense as it will mean people have to critique more in order to gain points...but would it also mean that people post less in storybooks as they're not getting the points for it? (Does anyone really pay attention to points? I couldn't tell you how many I have...)

Oh. Now it makes sense... I was wondering why I wasn't getting points.

Oh well. I'll earn more points to make up for all of those SB's I'm in... :)

Good idea. People like *cough* won't keep getting really high points for posting the storybook section, lol.

Since the points got turned off for storybooks, I've been reviewing more. I review more not only to earn points, but also because I now have a decent chance of making it to the top of the points contest.
