I don't know if this should go under the advice forum or not, but I figured it had a little to do with my publishing efforts, if not necessarily my current projects. Please move it if you see fit.
I just wanted to talk about how we, as writers, can sell ourselves. Yes, I am talking about the traditional concern of query letters, agents, and publisher marketing departments, but I also want to know about more timely concerns. With more and more people self-publishing in an already extremely competitive market, self marketing - self selling - is becoming more important than ever. The online world is the perfect place to do it. But it takes a lot for a blog to become big, for a website to become popular or to even attract enough visitors to pay the rent. But when they do, the payoffs are enormous.
So I just wanted to get the community's thoughts on the issue. How do you sell yourself, and how can we young writers start building an audience even before we get published?
