This morning, as I was driving in to work, I listened to NPR, which I do every day. Today, however, they were talking about the likely running-mate for John McCain. When the name came out of my speakers, my jaw dropped. At this point, I'm a little too shocked and a little too frightened to really process this, but it's bad. For those of you who haven't heard this little tidbit, the name was...

...Sarah Palin.

Damn. Okay, sure, she'd grant him a dose of that "celebrity" status that Obama seems to have, and she IS a female, which gets the minority thing on his ticket. And I suppose her policies probably jive with his. But... but... Sarah Palin? You've got to be kidding me. She has been really tearing this state through Hell. Worst mistake of our lives. She's got that deceptively pretty face, but I contest that the woman is pure evil. She's twisting the hunting laws to take the power away from the government and put it in the hands of a big-money committee. She wants to drill in ANWR. She favors the mining industry. She opposes a woman's right to choose. Etc. Oh, and the Public Safety Commissioner thing. Suffice to say that we (read: I and the people I hang out with; I can't speak for everyone) don't care much for the woman, and the possibility that she might someday be President (because, let's face it, McCain is OLD) is terrifying!

Evidently, McCain made a rush decision, here. I'd also like to point out that no one seems to be mentioning the whole Public Safety Commissioner thing. She's doing a bad job in Alaska, folks. How good of a job do you think she'll do as President if McCain dies? It's not something we can ignore. Dude's old.

(Disclaimer: knowing practically nothing else about her): This alone would make me okay with her; I'm pro-life, and it's pretty much my only non-negotiable political standard (i.e. pro-choicers are automatically not going to get my vote, no matter how great they otherwise are). Do we know for sure if this is his running-mate, or is this just strong speculation?

It's a certainty. And a very surprising pick. Why do I have to love politics...

I know nothing about her. I'd never even heard of her.... I'm just mad that he didn't pick someone logical like Mit Romney who would gain a lot conservative votes. He's starting to sound like a democrat . I can't tell the difference anymore. >.<

I think either president who's chosen will send us on a downward spiral. -sigh- Oh well.

I personaly think Mccain is better than Obama but yes, I agree.
Mitt would have been an awesome choice.

It's not that he sounds like a Democrat, it's that he sounds like a politician. All of them are...this is why I don't like politics. Their beliefs are all relatively similar, but nobody's actually going to GET anywhere because it's all talk and no action, just being afraid to go against the party.

I just consider Obama the lesser of two evils.

Oh, goodness, I'm exactly the opposite. XD I love how the little things impact such a big decision.

But, ugh, I don't really understand his decision. She doesn't really bring anything to the table that he didn't already have, and is more of the same white-Republican stereotype. Whatever happened to Straight Talk?

I hate politics. That doesn't mean I don't care what happens, I just hate discussing it. Especially since Obama is going to win by a landslide because he just pwns the Republicans. That's what I say. *nod nod*

Really? When I saw her walking out on the stage, I felt like McCain's choice was pretty smart. I actually despise McCain, but I think that McCain hit a homerun by picking a young, inexperienced but executive female. After all, most of the undecided voters at the moment are women. And do you really think that she ruined Alaska? Because in an article I read, it said that 80% of Alaskans currently support her. She also seems sort of like a maverick, and did you hear about her son? When they told her he had Down's Syndrome, she just said, okay. I don't care. I'll carry on. So of course she'll pick up some crucial Christian, pro-life votes that McCain has a loose grip on.

Of course, I hate both of their policies 100%. But I really think he made a right choice by picking her. Even though I wish he didn't.

I think she's actually quite experienced. She's been a mayor, a governor, and something with the word 'council' in it that escapes me.... To be honest, she sounds more experienced than Obama, who has only been a senator, what, a hundred and something days? That's kind of a no-no. VP should SO not be more experienced than a potential president, even if she's not Obama's running mate.

I think that she will probably be a good VP, and hopefully steer No-Brain McCain away from some bad decisions if he does get elected president.

That is the most ridiculous statement ever. John McCain came out of the United States Navy Academy at Anapolis 894th out of 899 students. Barack Obama got a B.A. in political science from Columbia University and became the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. It's impossible to compare the two. Although one's education is not the best method to measure one's intelligence, seeing as W attended Yale (because of Old Daddy Bush), it is quite evident that Obama did not finagle his way into the top college in America, whereas McCain, who was born to a long bloodline of military freaks, was somehow offered priority to be accepted into this Boat School.

That is the most ridiculous statement. When you hear something like that, even if it comes out of your mother's mouth (or: especially if it comes out of your mother's mouth), it's time for you to do some research and stand your ground when you find it's false

I am soooo thrilled she was picked! I thought John McCain was going to pick a weenie rino instead of an awesome conservative. But no! Total switcharoo! The conservative base is THRILLED to have her, and why not? She's a real maverick. I've been listening to talk radio most of the day, and it's awesome. I researched her too (who hasn't been?) and she's just a really cool person that supports like... most everything I believe in. I just wish she could be president and not Obama. Obama's a friggin' socialist in disguise. XD

I hate it how everybody in the U.S. is so freaking petrified of the word "socialism". Everytime I hear someone say it, it's as if there's a gigantic python just sitting on their shoulder and watching their every move. The red scare should never have cropped up to today's politics. U.S.A. is an advanced nation--there's no reason for the states to be scared of an economic system. The truth is, that I disagree with socialism too, when it comes to an economic system controlling our country. I believe socialism should become a bigger part of our lives, however. Look at Denmark--happiest country in the world according to a University of Leicester survey--has a tip-top socialized health care system, one of the best socialized education systems in the world, and high, high taxes (as in the rest of Scandinavia.) Socialism is what helped Denmark climb to the top. Now, if only the U.S.A could look over across the pond into their friendly Danish allies, we might reach the top of the Happiness survey too.

And then, the actual joke that Obama might be a socialist in disguise... I totally take that offensively. That's like saying, "McCain's a friggin' KKK member in disguise."
