Young Writers Society

So, we had one in 2007 (I wasn’t here, but Nate said so, so it must be true) and we had one in 2009 (it was forgotten in 2008 for some reason or another) so I figured, why not do it again this year.

The rules, in Nate’s words, are pretty simple:

Nate wrote:This is pretty much a free-for-all. Like any yearbook, you can simply leave a very short message, or if you like, leave a very long and rambling message. Talk about your favorite YWS memories from the past year such as friendships you have made or how YWS has helped you with your writing. If you just joined a few days ago (or even several months ago), write about joining YWS.

Artwork and pictures are welcome.

After thinking on it some, and because I think it would be a wonderfully fun project, I'm going to attempt to put the Yearbook this year up as a website! This means I'm going to need plenty of pictures as well as a News section (so if you can think of any super awesome YWS related news, that would be great). So if you want to help, of it you have any ideas, please contact me ASAP!

Note: I'm going to try and have the yearbook website up by January 15th so I'm setting the submission deadline as January 7. If anyone would like to see this deadline extended, please PM me. And after the site is up, I'm sure I'll still update it with any submissions that will follow but yeah.

Well then, I think it's about time I filled this in. I've had a distant year where YWS is concerned but nethertheless a good one. You guys make me feel so comfortable around you and even now when I enter chat, without fail I'm greeted with friendly hellos and some stalkerish tackling. There will always be a section of my heart reserved for YWS and all of its members.

Well, another year has passed (almost). I turned only two in May, but it feels like I've been here forever. Without YWS, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have got that L in English I was obsessing about. So thank you for that.

As for individual shoutouts, here goes.

beckiw: You tell the worst/best jokes that I always have to laugh at. And you are sometimes able to cure my paranoia, which is always good. And most importantly, you put up with me. Oh also, if it wasn't for you, I probably wouldn't have started watching Supernatural and finished all the seasons in two weeks.

Blink: I haven't really seen you lately, but you're always there somewhere. xD As a victim of my ageism and other such fun.

JabberHut: GAMER

Juniper: Thanks for coming to see me in the JFK airport and running with me and my mum so we could catch our next flight. I think you've also given me more earrings than any YWSer.

Kylan: Thanks for all the fun times with Scrabble and artery clogging and surprise gifts and everything else. And for giving me peanut butter! Summer was a lot of fun.

Lava: Earrings lovers unite!

Meshugenah: I mock you, you mock me, everyone is happy. One of the highlights in my summer was to pat you on the head.

Sachiko: =D =D =D DEAN. You make such amazing dolls and are amazing and cute. :heart:

Snoink: You lent me your jacket when I was cold in my touristy clothes! That was really nice. And with Mesh, you made me feel very tall.

Alright. First and foremost, this year is brilliant because it was in September of this year that I first joined YWS. I'd seen it before, but I wasn't sure about it until September. Actually, I still wasn't sure when I joined; that was on a whim. But now I'm glad I did.

So here are my shoutouts for 2010, in no particular order!

IgnisandGlacialis One of the many friends I've made in my short time here. Always great to have a conversation with.

borntobeawriter An awesome YWSer, reviewer and friend. I always enjoy talking with you and learning new things along the way. You've taught me a lot in a short time, and thanks so much for that. I've also recently realized you're a great writer (one might even say you were born to be a writer... ), and a great owner! RAWR!

Skins For some odd reason, I first thought of you as an older, established member who didn't talk to newbies. Boy, was I wrong. Not only are you a great friend, you're another person from the UK! (Go Great Britain!) Oh and this shoutout reminds me that I'm yet to finish your review. Don't worry; I'll get to it! I've done half already!

RachaelElg First noticed you when you gave me that awesome review on Kiss of Death. Then I started to talk to you, and then I read your stories, and in the way of YWS, we became good friends. Getting to know you has been awesome.

Ranger Hawk I see the gender icon, I've seen a picture of you. And yet I still can't shake that idea that has formed in my head that you're a boy. Ah well. It's been great talking and getting to know you.

Shubhi One of my first friends, and my first YWS to FB friend. Did I tell you how awesome you are Shubs? No? Well you're awesome.

TheNewHero The Hero of YWS! Master of the Chatroom! Haha, another YWSer who it's always a pleasure to talk too. On a side note, also perhaps the first South African person I've ever known.

watchmeburn I didn't know who you were until you first posted on my wall, but I'm glad I know you. It's nice talking, and even when I'm having a bad day it's great to get a comment on my wall posts.

jashbagabaldo One of my best friends on YWS. For some reason, I really enjoy reviewing your work. I wonder if that's my excuse for not having reviewed the final piece yet...I shall get to it, don't worry. And it's always great talking with you, even if in the beginning it took some time for me to figure out whether you were a boy or girl.

idraax Like me, you're new. But it's great getting to know you. Do you know I was always curious as to where the DMV area was? Thank goodness you have an About the Author page.

Nate And of course, the best YWSer of all. Of course I hardly know you, but you can't go wrong with the guy who was awesome enough to create YWS.

Reading shoutouts makes me remember why I'm on YWS and pour all my free time into it: the people here are lovely. Every single shoutout shows how close a community YWS has stayed despite increasing in size. I love watching it, and love being just a small part of it.

Shoutouts, which will always be incomplete because there are far too many awesome people:

Gladius- *Pouncetacklehugglehugs* We have spent far too many hours talking everywhere. But I'm not sure where my plots would be without you acting as a sounding board. I certainly wouldn't have my timeline as sorted out. I also doubt I would have this many plot bunnies, but such is life.

Kyllorac- One third of the Sadistic Storybookers, and you live up to your title probably more than Jag and I combined. I enjoy being co-overlord with you and your help in realism, and modding, is very much appreciated.

Jagged- Another Sadistic Storybooker (will summer get here already?) who allowed me to make this comment and is generally awesome to talk to.

Lilymoore- I talk to you far too little, for you joining a few weeks after I did! You're a wonderful person and always doing a lot for the site.

Writersdomain- Another I talk to far too little. I love your dedication to your novel and your characters; you always leave room for creativity to come naturally and you get to know your characters no matter the time constraints.

Lava- I love your photography, and gushing India with you. Your dedication to learning and exploring everything is nice to see.

Firestalker- Stick around longer, will you? You're interesting to storybook with (Prince of Death and king of twists) and introduced me to the fun of SBs. I miss having you around to torture characters with.

Dreamer- Fellow insanely dedicated homeschooler. You let me know it was humanly possible to have such a wide variety of interests, and your dedication to actually finishing courses in such a short time makes me wonder where my time goes. Come back.

Demeter- You were the first person to greet me, and introduce me to the epicness of guestbook conversations. And how geeking out about broadway is not only fully acceptable, but encouraged.

Ranger Hawk- Talking to you is always fun! I really should do it a bit more.

PinkShearwater- Just getting to know you, and I hope I continue to! You're hilarious to talk to and somebody I can gush Power Rangers with. That's just awesome.

Evi- The author of the first work I read that made me step back, incredibly impressed. You're such a lovely person to be around and always have a sense of fun. Make me smile every time we talk.

Elinor- I have loved watching you improve. And your dedication to making your novel work is admirable. I enjoy talking to you about long-running projects.

Meep(:- I am so glad you're back! I missed your cheery sarcasm and general wackiness.

Isha- Just getting to know you, but it's fun talking SBs with you. It's fun being able to talk plots that involves multiple people, and I hope summer has us have some fun together.

Octave- Another person I'm just getting to know, and I love hearing what sort of plots you come up with. It's fun discussing just what sort of stuff one mind can come up with. Figuring out plots together is just as fun.

Lumi- Somebody I haven't talked to much until now, but I'm glad I have. All topics, but poetry and storybooks seem to be nerves. The way you weave language makes talking to you a bit like poetry. It's lovely talking to you and I hope to continue.

JabberHut- Your mentor advice is worth its weight in gold. Talking to you is always so fun, and your happy take on life is refreshing.

PenguinAttack- Another person whose mentor advice has been invaluable. Talking to you is lovely and you're such a sweetheart, who always seems to be there right when somebody needs it. Your sweet way to handle things is wonderful.

Nate- Thank you for making the site. And putting up with me. And everything.

GryphonFledgling- Be around more! Your blogs are hilarious and the amount you Trope Drop is... I'm not sure what better describes it as Pure Awesomness.

Tigerspirte- One very active new member and it's nice watching you pounce on any topic you get the chance to. You're a total sweetheart and I hope you stick around.

Flower~Child- Seeing your poetry improve over time is lovely. Your work has a fair bit of promise to it. Just keep working!

Master_Yoda- So glad to see you back. I have missed your writing— and your poking holes in my reviews. Trying to cover everything I could possibly think of to have less holes poked has improved my reviews so much.

Kamas- Fellow poetry shredder, and one of the few people who can take on anybody. If only we weren't both under insane workloads and could talk more.

Tenyo- We don't talk much, but with the contests you run, writing you do, and how nice being in Chat with you is, I think you deserve mention here.

RachaelElg- Your articles. And advice. And just seeing all your plot theories (which I recently applied; blowing up plot is far too fun). I hope to talk to you more, because what little I have has been fun!

beckiw- Have not talked to you anywhere near enough, and I hope you do well! You're so dedicated to storytelling and creating something good that I'm sure you'll go far.

I can't believe another year has gone by. It's certainly been an amazing year. There have been hard points to it and many nights where I've been upset, but overall it's been wonderful. Part of that is due to the people on here who are endlessly sweet and kind. This post is just to acknowledge those people. I'll try not to make it too long.

I know we've only started to really talk recently, but each moment of that time has been wondrous. I don't know if remember exactly how we met, or what our first interaction was. I do know, however, that the Hunger Games club I made in December of last year brought us together and turned us into close friends. Even though it fell out, we still stayed close, and over the months our friendship has grown. We chatted through PM, text, and now skype. We'd chat even if we have nothing to talk about.

Thank you for being by my side for these many months. Thank you for writing those articles with me and brainstorming many ideas for how to contribute to the site. Thank you for talking to me and making me feel better when I was sad or upset. You're like the older sister I never had, and I wish I knew you in real life and could see you every day.

Wow, where to start.

Well, YWS has been amazing. I've made so many friends and learned so much about writing. I feel that, through my own reviews, I've come to be a better writer (although now I'm constantly critiquing my own work, which is very counterproductive). I can't tell you how many times I've felt down or shunned and have come on here to find that someone's posted a comment on my wall or replied to a post or just done something funny that totally brightens my day.

Now *rolls up sleeves* I fail at writing these, but there are some specific people I'd like to give a shout-out to, so here goes...

First and foremost, I'd like to give a huge thanks to Nate for even creating this site and then pouring so much into it and making it so classy, safe, and just amazing. I'm constantly blown away by all of the innovative, high-tech ideas you put into action and integrate into the site--this is definitely my favorite website, it just has everything! So thank you so much for the time and effort you've put into it.

AspiringAuthorA..M.: I've really enjoyed talking with you, reading your randomosity posts, and most of all being able to witness your salvation. I can't tell you how happy I was when you messaged me, and I am still praying for you, brother in Christ!

Baywolf25: I remember first meeting you after you posted some great advice on guys and dating. And we don't talk nearly as much as we should, but whenever we do I always enjoy your posts!

Vulcan (Bolt): We've watching everything from soy sause packets shooting around in microwaves, to spray paint catching fire inside of microwaves, to a crazy array of toys being killed inside of a microwave together. That is friendship.

To all of YWS, I love ya'll so much. You're like, my family away from my family. I wouldn't be the writer or reader that I am today if if weren't for you and every single member I've ever encountered. YOU FREAKIN' ROCK!!!!

Where to start? I joined YWS three and a half years ago, though it feels like I've been on here for ages. With the help of the people on YWS and the joy of storybooks, my writing steadily became better and I eventually became a published poet. In my time here, I've made and lost many friends, and had many, many great times with them around the website and in the chat room. I've loved my time on here, and there are some people I'd like to thank.

Tyler (Lumi): You've been an incredibly awesome friend, and I can't even begin to thank you for the support you have given me. I'm very glad to have the friendship with you that I do, and I honestly don't know how many messes I'd still be in without the help and advice I have received from you. You have the skill of making me laugh on my worst of days, and you are just truly amazing. <3

Bloo (Vulcan): Your face is illogical.

Jae (Octave), Jagged and Chey (Nutty): You three are just....awesome. xD You've been great friends as long as I've known you guys, and your humour and support has been awesome. I joined on September 5, 2010. now, a few months later, this place is quite literally my safe place. I honestly love that I can log on and talk *Complain* about my troubles to people who actually get it.
