Take A Moment For Yourself

by RavenAkuma

This poem was inspired by a meditation tactic for stress and subconscious tension. I hope you enjoy!

I can see that times are stressful,

Important dates, school assignments,

The call of work or personal responsibilities.

I’d like to ask you, my friend,

Take a walk over here.

Look across the sea of green,

How that emerald hue contrasts,

Against a clear blue sky.

How the lush trees,

Stand so strong yet welcoming.

Can you see clearly?

Do you feel the temperate air?

The warm sun and the gentlest breeze,

The scent of moist earth and wood,

That is the breath of nature.

Now come over to the tree.

Here, make yourself comfortable,

In the sun or in the shade,

Whatever works best for you.

Let's check in with you, okay?

Start with the breath,

Breathe in slow and steady,

Hold it briefly,

Then let it go gently.

In and out, in and out.

There are no distractions here,

Nothing but the calm embrace of nature.

And if your mind begins to wander,

That’s okay --gently bring it back to the breath.

Let it be your anchor for a moment.

Now, when you’re ready,

Focus on the center of your forehead,

Feel the calm energy rooted here,

Use this time to uncrease your brow,

Relax your eyes, and unclench your jaw.

Follow the energy down to your nose,

Feel the air coming in and out,

Cool air coming down your throat,

Then coming back out in a warm breath.

Don’t strain, just focus.

Next, follow it down to your shoulders,

Let them relax and hang naturally,

And now to your chest,

Focus on how it rises and falls,

Follow its rhythm for a moment.

Follow it through your arms,

Relax them, with your fingers unclenched.

Then feel it through your legs,

Let the blood flow and any tension dissolve.

It’s okay to reposition.

Now breathe in deeply,

And as you exhale this time,

Feel the energy calmly disperse.

Let yourself relax here,

And focus one more time on the breath.

When you’re ready, bring yourself back,

Take in the view once more.

How are you feeling?

You can stay as long as you need,

Here under the tree.

And before you return to wherever you hail from,

Just remember to always take a moment for yourself  ♥

Hi! Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this poem. It was really calming and honestly, really relaxing to read. Having based it off of a meditation technique as inspiration for your poem isn't something seen often, which makes it unique. I like how the poem goes through the different parts of the technique, narrating it in a way that is also teaching the reader. I don't really have anything else to say other than it was very relaxing to read.
Keep up the good work! :D

Hi @RavenAkuma!

It's been a long time since I've done a review, a really long time. There won't be any critiques of any kind, really can't think of any. I did want to drop in to say that I love this! I think the fact that it's inspired by a meditation technique makes it even more noticeable. The picture is in the perfect spot, provided the perfect break and scenery. I don't do much meditation, it's difficult for me. But I really, really enjoyed this piece, I could really feel everything.
Cheers!
