Confessions of the Confused

PreviousNext

Poetry: definitely not my strong point, but I couldn't find a way to turn this into a story so it'll stay a poem.

**Confessions of the Confused**

You may not know me, but you recognize me.

I'm not the center of attention, but I'm the reason for the party.

We don't consider ourselves friends, but we're always together.

Is this what it feels like to be loved?

Does popular feel the same -- or is this feeling unique to me?

I am an introvert; how do I deserve this?

I will the shadows to swallow me up, conceal me. And you pull me out again.

I try to hide in the crevices of the crowd. And you point me out.

I hide away in my safe house. And you coax me back into existence.

Am I a wallflower? Am I all alone?

I'm not so sure anymore...

Because of YOU -- the people --- my friends -- who force me to be

MORE THAN ME.

Hello, Noelle! KatyaElefant here for another review! Let's see what we have right here...

This poem has a really nice theme and many people can relate to this quite easily. Though I'm not really an introvert(though I used to be) at the moment, I can tell you that I have many friends that are and that would totally relate to this. Just as assurance, I wanted to let you know that some people may want you to try your best and may not realize that they are pulling you too much. You just need to say stop and they will stop if they truly care about you.

Again with the capitalization at the end, you shouldn't do that. Instead you should italicize it. It's just a rule of general writing. Would you put something in all caps in a short story? I wouldn't think so. Would you put something in all caps in a novel? I don't think so. Would you put something in all caps in a poem? No, usually you do not and right now is no exception.

The imagery included here is probably the best imagery that I have seen in your poem thus far. You know, if you practice writing imagery in poems, then you'll do a lot better with your imagery in your short stories and poems? I think that these metaphors that you have here are really great and unique at most times. Great job! :D

Keep calm and keep writing!

Hey Noelle! Alex here to review your poem because your name was in the big box at the top of my screen!
I really liked this poem! My favourite thing was the call and recall nature of it but without the most obvious response. I found that interesting and very creative!
I especially loved the ending to it as in, the last stanza! It really concludes it so well and gives the poem it's main meaning!
Honestly I can't find a huge amount wrong! It seems that you put a lot of effort into editing, using the right choice of words and the look of it! Well done!
Good bye!

I almost forgot that I wrote this o_o Thanks for the review!! I'm glad you liked it :)

I love how it is set out down the page, how it is trimmed with no cuttings left. Beautiful how people craft these things - wise, knowledgeable - for both writer and reader - well done!

"You may not know me, but you recognize me.

I'm not the center of attention, but I'm the reason for the party.

We don't consider ourselves friends, but we're always together."

The opening line isn't bad and the second line is quite intriguing; the third line is alright.

"Is this what it feels like to be loved?

Does popular feel the same -- or is this feeling unique to me?

I am an introvert; how do I deserve this?"

This stanza doesn't seem to connect to the first at all. I was immediately caught off by the abrupt end in flow and I was taken off guard.

"I will the shadows to swallow me up, conceal me. And you pull me out again.

I try to hide in the crevices of the crowd. And you point me out.

I hide away in my safe house. And you coax me back into existence."

This stanza seems to link with "introvert" but I couldn't see how it linked to the rest of the poem. However, it is written well and the imagery is beautiful, I didn't feel that it connected to the rest of the poem.

"Am I a wallflower? Am I all alone?

I'm not so sure anymore...

Because of YOU -- the people --- my friends -- who force me to be

MORE THAN ME."

The ending is alright. It seemed to tie together the entire poem in a way. And I quite enjoyed your ending.

You have a knack for poetry.

Keep it up.

Well...this was interesting. And this is a great poem. (poetry is my strong suit either) This is good. Got anymore?

Thanks! Not really sure if I have more poetry. I tend to stay away from it unless there's no other way to express myself. Basically a last resort thing.

The peom of most of our lives. A story of a wallflower?? Maybe. A peom of everyones life? Possibly probably not. A peom about this persons existence?? Yes if it is true. This is a peom about my life that much i know.

Let me start off by saying that I thought this was a very intriguing poem. I loved the subject matter and I thought it was well done. Now onto my review. I'll go stanza by stanza.

Stanza 1: I really liked this stanza. The message was clear, the cadence was nice and it read very smoothly.

Stanza 2: I didn't really like this stanza. I feel like it doesn't fit with the rest of the poem. The middle line especially just sticks out like a sore thumb. I would consider rewriting it so it is less wordy.

Stanza 3: I really like this stanza except for the punctuation. I think much of the punctuation in excessive and unnecessary. Consider rewriting it like this,

"I will the shadows to swallow me up, conceal me and you pull me out again.

I try to hide in the crevices of the crowd and you point me out.

I hide away in my safe house and you coax me back into existence."

I think this flows better and reads less choppy.

Stanza 4: I think this is a nice concluding stanza. If it were me, however, I would rewrite it like this,

"Am I a wallflower? Am I alone?
I'm not so sure anymore.
Because of YOU- the people I call "friends"- who push me
to be more than myself."

I hope this review helps you in your writing process! Happy trails!

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep your comments in mind :)
