Elektra says...

Text Version:

I see them in every flicker, every shadow that stretches too far,
every silhouette on the verge of transforming into something incomprehensible.
the sun is far away now; the moon is too dim to reveal anything;
not a lamp on this street is lit, the flames snuffed out.

I reach out, but the darkness draws back, elusive, refusing to be touched;
i whisper comforts to it-- why can't it understand i have its best interests at heart?
i only yearn for it, in its unyielding void that never gives back,
something that consumes and destroys, both beautiful and brash.
i've been outside of the natural cycle for too long

And still, it denies me, hovering at the edge of reach,
leaving me in this silent, hollow longing.
this is only the type of tease and taunt that the warmth of
darkness can bring. playful spirited yet imminent and ominous.

we are still running from our plagues, but it might as well be my savior;
a haunting comfort I cling to in empty spaces--
yet i fear i'll grow tired of this cycle of reaching out and drawing away,
of chasing shadows that aren't mine.

Hello Hello, I hope you all dont mind me popping in with a quick review. I will apologize that this might be a bit light on feedback. However, I figured I should give this a look since I help came up with the title. Albeit I do admit I am a bit late. With that being said let's get into it, shall we?

Overall, I enjoyed reading this piece. I think there's an extra layer of fun since I witnessed it being written. This is a very moody poem which is great because it was meant to be a Halloween poem. All of it evokes the emotion of a horror movie or short story involving games/ imaginary friends. There are a ton of stories with shadowy figures or games that involve demons so I feel this could fit right into the aftermath of those stories.

When it comes to interpretations I feel this could have a few. One is of course the idea of enjoying solitude and the night even if those hours are fleeting. However, I could also see this as symbolism for childhood trauma or chronic illnesses. A part of the person they wish could leave behind or at least fix. However, that seems to be harder than expected and seems to be affecting their relationships.

I could be reading too much into this I admit. Now normally I would jump into feedback here but I couldn't find anything, to be honest. So I am going to get into my closing thoughts.

I enjoyed this piece thoroughly and I adore how this reads like a paranormal being speaking. I hope all of you have a good day and or night. As always keep writing and remember to drink water!

Hello there, Elektra, Jazz, Century, and Mint! I'm reviewing using the YWS S'more Method today!

Shalt we commence with the macabre S’more?

Top Graham Cracker - The darkness is everywhere and all around. It is a friend and a foe, a demon and an angel. It can stay or it can go, but in the end, it will always waver back in through the stitches and seams of life.

Slightly Burnt Marshmallow - I don’t have any personal recommendations to make. If you and the others wanted to edit it, then go ahead, but I personally don’t feel like it’s needed.

Chocolate Bar - I love how the darkness is described as something that plays games but also has dark secrets. It’s a magical thing, filled with mystery and intrigue. Yet if it never really shows itself, then will the narrator lose interest in the darkness? It’s comforting and cold, soft and sour.

Closing Graham Cracker - Overall, a pretty supernatural poem that’s perfect for the spooky season. Darkness doesn’t have to be only frightening, it can be mystical, too. The moon gleams hide within the clouds, casting its glow on October nights. I loved how the darkness was talked about and so I wish you and the others…

A fantastical day/night! ^v^

What is a poet? An unhappy person who hides deep anguish in his heart, but whose lips are so formed that when the sigh and cry pass through them, it sounds like lovely music.
— Søren Kierkegaard, Philosopher & Theologian
