Hey you, reading this, right now.
You are standing somewhere, or sitting somewhere, or maybe laying somewhere, and you can feel the pressure up on your feet, butt, or back.
Just think about that feeling real quick. Feel it. It's there, isn't it?
This feeling comes from your weight, being pressed down into another surface, and then your body it taking that feeling in through nerves and sending the information into your brain to be processed.
But that's all it is, information. It is just your body taking a measurement of how hard it's being pushed down, and the properties of the surface it's against. All it really is - and should be - is boring ol' math.
But somehow, SOMEHOW, it gets turned into a feeling. You aren't seeing numbers fly in front of your face, your FEELING something. It's comfortable or uncomfortable, strange or normal, soft or hard. You're not seeing info flying in front of your face like, 'bad for back. Has 4.2 pounds of give.' That's weird.
Speaking of seeing, lets talk about colors. I assume your in a space.
Look around.
There's probably colors in the room, or maybe the blue background of YWS.
Yeah, those, those are colors. But all they really are is light entering through a hole in your eyes, hitting the back, and then telling your brain how much energy is in that light.
Once again, it's just boring information. If you were a computer, that would just be a buncha measurements of crap. Colors don't REALLY exist, it's just your way of processing information and turning it into a feeling. But in the end, it's just a measurement.
BUT
Somehow, you see colors, and FEEL something. Not just that, but some colors together feel nice to your brain.
WHY?
Well, part of it is because evolution wants you to like those colors for survival, but part of it isn't.
But, if they are important to survival, why not just tell you that, instead of making you FEEL something.
Here, try pinching yourself
Do it
Are you doing it?
Please, just humor me and do it.
Come on a bit harder, it should hurt.
There you go.
But there, what just happened was excess pressure was applied to your skin, nerves then took this info in, sent that info to your brain. Then your brain tells you that you're getting broken, which could be bad, and make you not survive.
Yay evolution doing its job!
BUT
for some unknown reason, you have been given this magic ability to FEEL pain, it's not like a video game with a little health bar to tell you not to do that. It's a feeling. A bad feeling. But one that doesn't exist outside of you.
But pain, it feels so real. Maybe the most real. It cuts through all other reals and makes it all you can see. For some reason our bodies have decided to give us this terror, this torture, instead of a health bar.
It's conciseness. WE DONT KNOW WHY THIS IS HELPFUL. WHY? Why would the universe, why would evolution, make us FEEL things. Why not make us unfeeling computers who just move away from danger and towards food? WHY?
WE. DON'T. KNOW.
SCIENCE DOESN'T KNOW.
But, it's not all pain, some of it is deeply amazing. Like, take a deep breath through your nose. You can probably smell something. If not, go get some salt and put it on your tongue. You body is measuring what type of chemicals are on your tongue or in your nose, and the amount. But, once again YOU feel a feeling.
It's not even a simple feeling. Even just salt has a strange, amazing, complicated flavor.
Not just that. Go to the grand canyon, or look up at that stars, or cuddle a cute kitty. None of those things are helpful for your survival. But they make you feel strong, GOOD, feelings.
And that's amazing!
It's more than amazing. It is what makes the universe worth existing.
We, as thinking beings, FEEL things. We take the universe and turn it into emotions. Which are all in our head. But, in my opinion, are more real than that math.
We feel things so hard, so deep.
BUT WE DONT KNOW WHY
AND THAT'S WILD
BUT WE DO
“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?
