@Liminality @atlast

Hey hey! I apologize for how late I am on all this -- life's crazy for me rn BUT I'M EXCITED!

Lim, are you still potentially interested in DMing, or did you want me to? I would slightly prefer not to DM, but if you're not comfy with doing it then I don't mind! I'm also happy to answer any and all questions that you may have, happy for this to be a learning experience if that'd make you happy too :')

Now, on to business, do either of y'all have any ideas?

Going back to our profiles/preferences:

atlast - realm or hollow; fantasy, slice of life, drama, or anything.
Lim - fast; lighthearted and Not Romance
me - realm or hollow; fantasy, action-adventure, sci-fi/dystopian, modern AU, anything (except romance)

I propose we do a realm, but I think a hollow could also be a good fit if we're not feeling making an actual plot xD What do y'all think?

It seems that atlast and I are fans of fantasy but flexible, and Lim and I are Not Fans of romance xD Do y'all wanna try for a light-hearted fantasy? Or should we branch out? I'm honestly down for basically anything! I don't have any ideas kicking around in my head rn but writing prompts online are easily adapted to RP ideas if you use the right keywords so we can do some digging around if we need help. But, for now, could y'all share the general gist of what you usually write?

My novel and a fair chunk of my RPs would fall under a YA Action-Adventure umbrella, which I would classify as low fantasy (like, magic exists and is regularly used by some characters but is not a regular part of life for ordinary people). I generally go for a medieval-esque setting.

But I've also got another RP as a modern AU on a college campus, a 22nd century dystopian, a murder mystery, etc. etc. -- so, basically, I suck at historical pieces and am not a fan of romance, but otherwise, anything is fair game in my book and I am happy to adapt! I will likely create a new character for this for one of my Daily Bounties so I'm literally wide open to figuring this out as we go along and coming up with a character that's a good fit :')

Excited to RP with you both!!

Hi Shady! Yeah, I'd be good for DM-ing I think!

Just to check: DM-ing would involve 1. making the RP thread, 2. sort of keeping the plot moving along if we choose to a Realm roleplay, 3. organising new applicants if we do a Hollow? Those are my starter questions for now hehe ^^

But, for now, could y'all share the general gist of what you usually write?

Hmm I'm kind of here and there, I suppose. I've been in more casual fantasy-themed RPs in the past and am currently in Magic School Rejects (which is a bit more intense in the worldbuilding than I'm used to, but I'm cool with trying new things!). In terms of my own writing, I usually go for 'soft' fantasy or sci-fi. I'm def comfortable with loosely medieval European settings, though a more 21st century setting is also okay with me.

I took the tip on the online writing prompts and pulled some things out of the Seventh Sanctum Quick Story Theme generator. I think we might be able to do a light-hearted spin on . . .

- Setting: High fantasy. Theme:switching-of-roles story (like maybe a Prince-and-the-Pauper style one character swaps with another, or something more magical like a soul/mind swap)
- Setting: dystopia/sword-and-sorcery. Theme:wacky reality-is-a-dream story (I just like the theme name on this one xD we could do without the dystopia to keep it light-hearted)
- Setting: sword-and-sorcery/high fantasy. Theme:action-adventure pursuit story (could be an interesting more plot-driven one if we're doing Realm)

Eager to hear your thoughts!

Yay cool!

The answer to all your questions is yes. I might propose we keep this closed to just us three. RPs get progressively harder to DM the more people that are added, not to mention they go slower and we all indicated we prefer speed. Not strongly opposed, though! If y'all wanna open this up then I'm fine with that, too, just thought I'd give you some things to consider.

Those all seem like good ideas! I admit I'm not familiar with the Seventh Sanctum site, but I am now exploring and am a big fan ^^

I think the first and third are my preferences, but I agree the theme of number to is intriguing, so, :eyes:

The first may be a little tricky since there are three of us instead of just two -- however, we could make it work. Maybe like this small group of friends (or not, whatever lol) switches with another small group.

The third seems like a lot of fun but we're going to need at least a few major plot points for structure before we jump into it. Unless we're just going with a hollow in which case: y e e t xD

Heya @Shady! Sorry I realised I somehow forgot to subscribe to this thread xD Got that fixed now!

I agree with keeping it closed since I would be a completely beginner DM and I don't want to bite off more than I can chew, haha.

The first may be a little tricky since there are three of us instead of just two -- however, we could make it work. Maybe like this small group of friends (or not, whatever lol) switches with another small group.

That could be good -- I guess it would mean each of us controls two characters? If we want to limit it to one character per person, maybe we could make the story such that one of our characters is a mage that did the spell for the soul swap in the first place (for whatever reason) and they're influencing events and trying not to let the other two notice?

The third seems like a lot of fun but we're going to need at least a few major plot points for structure before we jump into it. Unless we're just going with a hollow in which case: y e e t xD

Oh def!

I'm pretty torn on these two to be honest. Would love it if @atlast could be the tie-breaker here :D

oh gosh, i completely missed the notifications for this! hopefully i have it fixed now.

tiebreaker is a heck-of-a role, but i'll take it! i agree that the first idea would be a bit tricker, but i like lim's idea to have someone be the mage that initiated the soul-swap! i also agree that we would need a few plot points for the second one, but that does seem more manageable. i feel that if we were to have a mage character (first idea), then they might have to do a bit more planning to keep the other characters out of the loop.

that being said, i think that while i really like both, i'm going to go with...

*obligatory drum roll*

option three ! :)

Looks like we're going with no. 3 then!

Setting: sword-and-sorcery/high fantasy. Theme:action-adventure pursuit story

I guess the main things to figure out are:
1. What are our characters pursuing? Is it an NPC, an artifact, a magic potion?
2. A little bit of worldbuilding since we're going to have to have places to adventure in hehe
3. What is stopping our characters from getting there?
4. (Did I miss anything else?)
5. Are we all making new characters for this or are we bringing in characters we've made before?

Just going to spitball some ideas here, and would love to hear some from both of you:
1. They are pursuing . . . The Egg of the Butter Dragon! Legend has it that the person who hatches it will receive immense power! The power of . . . Making pre-existing butter taste extra delicious with the touch of a finger. (Would require slightly ridiculous and or bored characters probably xD)
2. Since it's sword-and-sorcery, I'm thinking a kingdom would be a good setting? Maybe a kingdom run by a monarch with magic powers, and all the magic abilities are styled after this monarch's power. Let's say it's something like . . . Fire magic, so that leads to spells from 'Curse of the Iron Forge' to 'Breadcrust Burning'.
3. Maybe the monarch's soldiers are also after the artifact? Or there's a secret organisation of Pastry Clerics looking to stop anyone else from getting to it.

And just to confirm, will this be a Roleplay Realm one or Hollow? I personally vote Realm even though it's slower, just because I think it'd be nice to have an 'end' to this one where the characters actually get to the person/thing they're pursuing.

Epic! I don't think you missed anything on the things we need to cover:

1. What are our characters pursuing? Is it an NPC, an artifact, a magic potion?
2. A little bit of worldbuilding since we're going to have to have places to adventure in hehe
3. What is stopping our characters from getting there?

5. Are we all making new characters for this or are we bringing in characters we've made before?

Continuing the spitball...

I like this Butter Dragon! It's definitely a tad ridiculous, but I think we could pull it off. Perhaps our characters are soldiers/knights under the toastiest king of the land and are tasked with the honorable quest of slaying the Butter Dragon for its egg, or maybe they're in this Pastry Cerlic organization guarding the Egg while on the run from the king.

Also, I agree with the Realms. It would be fun to see how our story ends and get to pursue [what/whoever they're after].

Those sound like interesting ideas, @atlast! I'm kind of leaning towards the idea of our characters being knights trying to get a hold of the Butter Dragon Egg, but maybe with something more unusual, like solving the dragon's riddle for a chance to help hatch it and gain the butter powers, or something like that. (I feel like it would be funny if the toastiest king of the land was following our characters and their job was to bring/escort him to the dragon -> and then solve the dragon's riddle -> so the king can basically hatch the egg with a warm blanket and receive butter powers xD)

Heya! Hope you two are doing well. Sorry - I know I volunteered to be the DM and so should have been taking charge on this sooner, but would it be okay (provided that you're still interested) to try restarting this RP planning in December or later? There's just quite a bit for me to do IRL and in mod-related stuff as well at the moment ^^'

@atlast @Shady

Heyo! How are you two doing? It's almost December, and I just wanted to give a tag in case you're still interested in the Butter Dragon RP. I've come up with a bunch of ideas for it to tickle the imagination - I know it *looks* like a lot but everything here is totally revisable and I'd love for any of us to jump in on anything here.

Key Points on the Setting and Premise

Toastlandia: a kingdom on a coastal peninsula, which also covers an island to the west, home to the infamous Butter Dragon. The main export of the kingdom is wheat, hence the baked goods theme. The people of the kingdom have magical powers that allow them to modify temperature, which is why they can do mass exports of food despite being at an almost medieval level of technology.

A Butter Dragon & An Egg: the egg of the Butter Dragon is said to give a magical power to whoever hatches it. News has travelled that the Butter Dragon has laid a new egg and she is incubating it. The magical power is a spell that, when cast, makes a butter more delicious than any butter ever produced before.

The king: official title "toastiest king of the land". He wants to hatch the egg and acquire the powers for himself.

(Possible motivations for this: maybe making delicious butter makes him more prestigious as a ruler compared to monarchs in other states? Maybe he's just bored?)

The knights: they serve the king, have temperature-related magic powers usually used for combat and adventuring, and have been tasked with escorting the king to the Butter Dragon's den and somehow ensuring he incubates the egg, perhaps with a magic blanket.

The Pastry Clerics: potential antagonists guarding the Butter Dragon's den and trying to stop the knights + king from reaching it.

(Possible motivations: they want the powers for themselves?)

Plot Outline

For an action/adventure pursuit story and to keep things simple, I was thinking the characters might travel in a mostly linear route from the east end of the kingdom to the west, and then set off on a boat slightly further west to get to the Butter Dragon's island.

They would travel through these locations in order:
(I might draw a rough map for this if I ever figure out how)

1. Capital City, on the eastern coast
○ Characters introduced, gather and king gives them their mission
○ They find out they can't travel from the city's port because of an ongoing strike
○ So instead they have to travel by land - they set off from city gates
2. Farming village outside capital city
3. Forest
4. Abandoned mining town
5. Port city on the western coast
6. Boat ride
7. Island with the mountain where the Butter Dragon lives
○ Find some silly way to get the dragon to let the king incubate the egg

We could either have the Pastry Clerics be chasing after them, or maybe be guarding key positions waiting to pounce? (I think the second one makes more sense, since some of them should already be there at the Butter Dragon's island, if they're an old organisation who's been waiting for this moment a long time.)

Characters

Our main player characters could be part of the knights, and maybe have NPCs to populate the rest?

I just wanted to pitch one idea for a character here, because I thought he was a funny one and might match the ridiculous comedy energy of this story:

Sir Edward Matthias Crawfunkel - He bakes, and he knows things.
Age: 60. A knight who just came out of retirement to help with this quest. Mostly motivated by whimsy and wanderlust. Skills are mainly in navigation and knowing lore. Close to zero combat ability. Shouts "Burnt crusts!" when surprised or dismayed.

Could be an NPC or could be my player character, depending xD

Welp, that's all from me! c:

Hey! Sorry for being so unresponsive with this @Liminality -- I am def still interested in this. Unfortunately, my brain is 0% creative rn with being sick and stuff so I don't really have the capacity to respond but could you remind me in a week or so? I want to give this RP the energy it deserves which I unfortunately don't have for it rn ;-;

HELLO, I HAVE RECOVERED (mostly lol) -- @Liminality @atlast

I'm down for this ^^ I find it ironic all three of us were like "ah yes we want speed" in JULY and now it's December and we still haven't started xD

I propose we yeet this into a closed hollow and just get started and see where it goes from there. I'm down for that synopsis and playing a knight ^^

I'll bring in Sir Aeron Munen - 25, 6'4" and buff, pale skin and blond hair, always joking around and in a good mood, even if he just had a close brush with death. Basically just a young knight with boyish charm that generally makes people like him a lot since he's personable and gregarious. However, he's also very good at sword-fighting and is a formidable opponent when crossed. Pretends to be cool but deep down is a softy.
