May Haiku Collection [2022]

SUBMISSION THREAD

Image

Last year @Liminality organized a lovely a community haiku collection in the month of May (you can admire it here), and we had so much fun last year, we're going to give it a try again this year. In addition to writing 1 Haiku on any subject you'd like, you're also going to be asked to write 1 Haiku about yourself! The idea is we'll get to share some light poetry with each other and maybe learn a little bit about each other too in the process.

How to Submit Your Haiku

1. Submit one haiku on any subject, and one haiku that has something to do with yourself could be about who you are, a hobby of yours an aspect of your personality, you name it!

2. After all the poems are collected here, they will be compiled into a single beautiful PDF that you could print, save, or share as you please.

Some Directions

1. Please do not include special fonts / colors / images with your haiku, just the words please.

2. Your haiku doesn't need to follow every traditional rule to haiku-making but it should be three lines with the first line being 5 syllables, the second line being 7 syllables, and the third line being 5 syllables again.

Like this:
seasons shift and stir,
spring earth gives birth to summer,
and the flowers bloom

Can't get enough haiku?

but i have promised to return

Here's mine!

Haiku 1:

Layered green tree-tops
under the hot sun, a branch
shows dried yellow blooms.

Haiku 2 (about myself):

A cloud-watcher, I
am unbothered by white sun
glaring at trees but not sky.

Haiku 1 (from Haiku train):

Below the window
lies a dove that mistook it
for gloomy dusk skies.

Haiku 2 (about myself):

face ego-death and
get in the robot, Shinji!
You have doomed us all.

I very much love all of these so far. Thank you for entering!

Here's some from me - might edit later!

haiku about me

tangled roots stirring
through river water; become
a fish, learn to swim.

second haiku

the day hatches warm,
sunbeams reach as newborn wings
morning stretches new.

there is no season as achingly temporary as now
but i have promised to return

@QueenMadrose don't forget to add your autobiographical haiku! It doesn't have to be descriptive of you but could touch on a hobby / interest / emotion too! Whatever you're feeling. :)

haiku 1 :

spring is relative;
perennially forever,
simply a second.

haiku 2 (abt me) :

i have argued with
my seasonal allergies,
and i sadly lost.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

Haiku 1:

I swallow silver
and wear water in my hair,
ice beneath my feet.

Haiku 2 (about me):

the ground seems closer
when she is sad. she has not
yet learned to love dirt.
I was born to speak all mirth and no matter.

Haiku No. 1:

Poetic Silence

Quietens ashes
As shattered seeds sink softly
Through the endless sea

Haiku No. 2:

Sinking Sands

But I must stay strong

Strand by strand by strand

1.)
whimsy dandelions
waltzing in the summer breeze
soon grew old and grey

2.)
rising from the ash
a young phoenix is reborn
sky awaits my flight
I only put my signature on big cheques.
