Let's say for a moment
that I could fall in love with you
and you with me-

-that we were not separated
by mountains and oceans
that I could lie with you.

Somewhere further than the deserts
and lakes and valleys,
beyond the walls of war,

Is a place where I could run my fingers
through your hair, and hold your hand,
and kiss you, if I dared.

Let's say for a moment
that you're here with me
and stay, just for a moment

here with me.
We were born to be amazing.

Autumn leaks through the creases in your brow,
lines that splinter like veins on yellow leaves.
White clouds bloom in the deep dark-blue
and colour the world with a misty morning haze

Ribs poke through translucent skin
like dimples on the surface of the moon,
while blue veins cut a path through hair
that stands on end like the trees
of some wintered spruce-wood landscape.

The ridges on your hands dip
and rise like desert dunes- coarse and gritted.
With yours in mine I trace them
like a hieroglyphic love song
that we carved through the ages.

There is a sourness found in new, wild things,
a distaste for youth,
lest I lose the ability to appreciate
the beauty of your centuries
painted in your skin.
We were born to be amazing.
