Your main character talks to a ghost about anything you like.

Your main character is on a mission or journey of some sort but get interrupted by every possible thing. No matter how hard they try to make it to the end, something else comes up. This leads to the plot having as many branch offs as you like, and also being as dark or humorous as you like.

Write a story from the perspective of a really smart, genre-savvy villain.

Choose a random, mundane object within eyesight of your computer and write a short story about the magical properties it's hiding.

A philosopher is out to destroy infinity--only a mathematician can stop them.

Something incredibly mundane becomes illegal.

Murder. Is your MC the murderer? Did they witness a murder or discover a body? Are they under suspicion but in fact innocent? Whatever way you go, a murder takes place along the way.

Go to your local theatre or look up the current box office online and pick a movie poster for something you haven't seen. Without knowing anything about the movie other than the poster, write what you think the story is about (or what you want it to be about).

Technology has been invented that allow animals to speak to us. You are trying to learn their ancient, universal and possibly alien language, now that they are able to translate it to us.

The person prophesied to save humanity from a Great Evil is actually a servant of the Great Evil, or a different evil entirely.

On your way home take a look at some of the doors you pass each day without ever really noticing them. Write the story of the prisoner who's being held hostage behind it.

Another world war has broken out, the fifth one to be exact. This time instead of the allied and axis powers dueling, it is the dog lovers versus the cat lovers. The rest of the animal lovers remain neutral in this fight.

You are a time traveler. You have to kill one person, and when you do your time machine breaks, but you are immortal--thus, you have to suffer through the consequences of your actions. Who do you kill, and what do you see after?
