(This is in regards to the shortened version of 'until.')

Well, I have recently been informed by the amazing Jabbster that 'til is no longer grammatically correct.

That is simply not acceptable.

So she and I spent a good hour searching the Internet, looking for the correct answer. Many dictionaries preferred till. Many other places liked 'til.

Both are common, so it’s up to you which one you like. Till is commoner in Scotland, where it can be used like dative to in some situations, while ’til is commoner in the U.S.

(Link: here.)

The current position is that until is the more common of the two words and is generally considered to be slightly more formal, which is why it turns up more often in edited prose. It is also rather more likely to appear at the beginning of a sentence than is till. But till is perfectly good English and the choice of whether to use it or until is often decided by the rhythm of the sentence.

(Link: here.)

So, which do you support? Both are used often, so it's up to you.

Who will win?

Of course it's 'til!! it's supposed to be a smaller version of until, I just can't think of the grammar term right now. lol

I do believe it's 'til anyway, despite all the arrows pointing to till when it comes to prose. It only makes sense to me that 'til be the correct form, seeing as it's the abbreviation for [or just a lazy way of saying] until. Yes, till looks cleaner, but it hurts my eyeballs with all the vertical lines anyway. xD

I'm supporting good ol' 'til all the way.

Until! Or the abbreviation of until, so, 'til.

Ever look at a word so much that it doesn't look like a word anymore? o_O

I guess 'til does make more sense sinse it is a shorter version of until. Personally, I rarely ever use them in my writing, anyway, so it makes little difference to me which is more correct.

That's freaky. You're right. Until looks strange now. XD

Well, I'm all for 'til.
Just write -- the rest of life will follow.

Would love help on this.

I prefer "until". :) But I think that 'til is the short for until, and till is its own word. ? Not sure, though.

My... head... hurts.

(Grammer has launched this campaign in a bid to take over the world. While everyone is searching for the answer, grammer infiltrates and tries to lock the world in a rigidly grammatical giggle jacket)

I always use until. Using 'till or till seems like using "ok" in narrative. Too colloquial and all.

'til. I'm pretty sure till is a different word meaning something completely different. Possibly something to do with farming?
