I'd go for sword every time.
Before you judge someone, walk a mile in their shoes... Then who cares? You're a mile away and you've got their shoes.

The pen. While the sword can cause death and bring peace, the pen can inflict mental pain on someone and sign those treaty's the swords bring around.
