I started when I was four. My first book was "Hooper Humperdink, Not Him!" and I read it so much the cover fell off!

I started reading at about age four with some book that said stuff like 'the cat was on the mat' and 'the rat is fat.' I had this thing that if I said a whole page correctly (which was like two sentences), I got a hershey kiss. :)

So, I learned to read when I was like three and the first book I read was Hansel and Grethel when I was five years old. After I read that one, I just couldn't stop.

I think I was 4 when I started reading. I don't remember the book though. Actually, I don't remember a lot of things from when I was younger. Everything below 10 years is a blur to me.

I learned when I was 7 (in my time it was the basic age to start schooling) but my first "big" book was at 8. It was "White Fang" ^_^ And at 9 I started writing.

I was ALWAYS read to, which is very important for a child's development, but I put five because, let's face it, five is really the most realistic age for all of us. I see a lot of people here putting three, but I think the poll refers more to books. I was reading Harry Potter by the time I was five and six. I knew how to spell words when I was four-ish, but I feel that people here could be exaggerating by saying three :P

I was almost tempted to put three as well.

Well... when my dad began to teach me how to read, I was three. However, I could read at six. Wow, I've been reading for 4-5 years now. o.o

As soon as I could talk! Uh, 12... >.>
Well, I started reading at a younger age, and I was always read too, but I couldn't really read until I was 12, sadly.

Sorry, mouse spasms; I started at four, but accidentally selected three. Just thought y'all should know that I am not vaguely superhuman ;).
