FIRST...I am well aware of this, thanks. I don't randomly throw quotes around a word for no reason.

SECOND...my opinion still stands. It's about what matches the YWS, not how 'cool' a dragon is.

Furthermore, let us consider Chewbacca.

Why are we considering Chewbacca? Isn't this a decision about the forum background? This does not make sense. If we're confused, then we must have a monkey background because Chewbacca doesn't make sense. We can't vote for dragon if Chewbacca doesn't make sense.

Everyone knows that Chewbacca doesn't make sense, therefore we should vote for monkey.

Look at the silly monkey!!

I rest my case.

Ok...I have to throw this in. If a mascot is supposed to bring goodluck, it should so be a dragon because dragons are the good luck symbol of the chinese culture (that' a lot of people, considering the fact that they are overpopulated and stuff. yes, I know a lot of people on this site probably aren't chinese though.)I'm not gonna comment on griffenkeeper because that made absolutely no sense to me.
There are more senses than just the classic, western sense when it comes to dragons. There are myths from China, the Americas, Eurasia, and everywhere else. From all the reading I've done (I have books on dragon lore) the only places where dragons were evil were in the Western sense. they were fairly nice everywhere else.

DRAGON'S RULE!!!

However, this website is based largely in the "Western" Culture. Some of our members MAY be from Eastern cultures, but STATISTICALLY we are a Western culture site.

Therefore, a Chinese Dragon would not be representative of us as a whole.

I am the Korax, I speak for the Kangaroos! Lol.

---monkey's are very clever, is that not better luck for writers then a 'big strong, fire-breathing, people eating' dragon? I think so.

And you still have no points as to why the dragon would match the people of YWS. I suggest you get off this topic and venture out onto actual literary forums and come up with some if you really want to continue this debate.

Oh, don't you worry, monkey lovers. I'm putting the finishing touches on my argument that dragons really DO represent the writers of YWS. No more, "But dragons are just cool, then end!"

Just you wait and see... ;)

A small portion of my arguement is already well established, my dear Crysi, but I'd be a fool if I revealed all my cards, right?

Random note: Glancing over the thread, many of the people voting dragon seem to have under 100 posts.

Not that post count really counts for much, but I wonder if this has some sort of factor in it? Like the more experienced members associating YWS with Nate's 'chimpyness' or summit.

Monkey and dragon keep on swapping. One moment, one's ahead, and the next, it's the other.
