I just realized something really weird. When I say caramel out loud, I always say car-mel, but when I read it in my head, I often hear care-uh-mel. I can only guess this is because it helps my brain spell it correctly, like how I say 'Wed-nes-day' to myself every time I spell it.

It depends on the circumstances.

Car-mul, definitely. It's how its supposed to be pronounced. Not that it matters. I prefer chocolate anyway.

I habitually say car-mul and kind of worry that it’s wrong? But something about care-uh-mel feels pretentious when I say it.

^ This. I feel like if I said "care-uh-mel" I'd need to do a little curtsy and start demanding everyone call me madam or something. It sounds nice, but also sounds like the elite victorian-english version of the word. :] So I just say car-muhl! :)

Same! I voted for the second one, car - mel, because thats how I say it out loud. But I do say it care - uh - mel in my head lol.

I pronounce it "kya-ra-mel". Is it the wrong pronunciation or what? Cause it's none of the above! :o
