I love reading during the summer!

But I remember hating having to read certain books. Even if I liked them, I almost never actually read them.

I'm actually a terrible student, guys.

Never had to do it that I could remember but I agree with other comments, being forced to read certain books is just the worst.

I think it's great. I usually run out of books to read during the summer, so having some new ones rocks.

Anythiing required sort of defeats the enjoyment of reading in grade school. But hey, it's school.

If I were required to read books over the summer I just wouldn't read them ><

I've been 'required' to read books before (and there was no NOT reading them, I HAD to read them), and half the time when I read them I was bored out of my mind, I'm sure if I read them now they might be more interesting, but I really hated it.

Ok, I never knew that these kinds of things exists, until now obviously.

Anyway, I think the idea is sorta "meh" ...

I don't think it's horrible, because it offers a new perspective to students a lot of the time, but students (especially me, yes) don't really appreciate being required to do anything. At the same time, I'd recommend keeping the books on your shelf until you actually want to read them, 'cause a lot of the time they're pretty good on their own.

Summer reading is great, but it can get a bit tedious at times.

Perhaps it can be a book about dirt (just using this as an example,) I honestly do not want to read a book about dirt. Yet if it's something like Greek Mythology or maybe even a YA novel, then I would read it.

I think summer reading is good for students to develop better skills in the field of English. I tutor students with learning disabilities and I think that if they had a summer reading list it would help them tons.

I don't have a problem with summer reading itself, but I do hate what's called "literature-based arts and crafts" (didn't make that term up myself, it was on a blog). You know, when the teachers make you construct things based on the reading...
Why read this? Why not do that thing you always wanted to do?
Go now. Find your passion. I'm sure it's not reading signatures.

Summer reading is good, but... in the summer I like to read my own choices because I read ones for school all year ^^
