Day 6250

There is no life beyond the compound. It’s a wasteland They say, covered in untamable landscapes of snow, desert, and jungle. The only life that remains beyond the compound consists of gangs, scavengers, and monsters hellbent on destroying everything in their wake. Clinging to the dregs of their desperation, they show no mercy.

There is no magic beyond the compound. They say our magic is our greatest resource…our greatest weapon against those who would hurt and exploit us. Magic has run dormant in our world after countless years of abuse and slaughter, and we are its last remaining wielders. We don’t know where this energy roots from, we only know that it is ours to manipulate.

There are no familiars beyond the compound. When each of us are born, we are granted a familiar. One of the few remaining creatures of peace left, and they are not yet corrupted by the monstrous beings outside. They are a conduit of our power, a companion in which we walk through life, our guardians. We would be powerless without them. Our bond is greater than that of any family, love, or enemy.

There is no safety beyond the compound. Every day They train and prepare us so that one day we may bring balance back to our destroyed world. In a world with no mercy and no peace, we must become warriors of the mind and of the body. We are our world’s last hope They say. We are the future.

There is no future beyond the compound. They are gone. They were our leaders, our trainers and our teachers. And yet, now They are gone. When our world went dark, They did not say why They left. Nor did They prepare us for what came next. Especially when one day such a strange thing would arrive at our door. Another wielder just like us. Another wielder with the knowledge that we were lied to our whole lives. Half-truths are still lies, and beyond the world we knew are countless others worlds we could not even imagine.

There is no life beyond the compound…Right?

Could it be possible that we are not the saviors we were once thought to be? And instead, were we created to be the ruination of everything we once thought was gone?

History:

Spoiler! :
This Storybook is a dystopian fantasy set in the world of Idris. Idris has been a world at war for generations over Wielders. Wielders are magical beings who have the power to control energy with specializations in different forms (see Magic Explained). Wielders are unusually powerful and unpredictable. Wielders magic is honed and controlled through their familiar (see Familiars Explained) and without their familiar, their power can quickly become dangerous and uncontrollable. Kingdoms and armies ruled by Wielders have risen and fallen throughout the centuries leaving magic users almost extinct and the world in disarray. Harsh climates have ravaged the world and empires are far and few. Wielders in this world now are rare and weak and typically seen more as sideshow attractions than warriors or rulers. Some are stronger and specialized, but they are kept away from the public eye.
This story begins with the children of the Roth Experiments. Also known as The Lost Ones. For 17 years they have been kept in isolation training, living, and learning side by side. The compound in which they grew up was seemingly peaceful with no contact to the outside world except their over-watchers. These 'guardians' raised the children to believe they were humanities last hope, but when the Roth Experiments suddenly go dark and everyone who raised them has disappeared, they begin to learn their lives and the world outside is not as black and white as they once thought.

Magic Explained

Spoiler! :
Wielders are the magic users of the Idris Universe. They are controllers of the worlds flowing energies. Each Wielder specializes in a form of energy, and rarely have access to overlapping skills. These energies are powered most commonly from elemental and earthly energy, and sometimes they are powered by cosmic energy. The more powerful and trained the wielder, the more access they have to explore more precise energies.

These include:
(These Wielding types will develop as the series go, but these are their most basic forms. Some Energies have small overlap skills depending on the skill of the Wielder. For example, healing, weather, heat, consumption, etc.)

Elemental Energies: (Most common, and creates powerful warriors)

Aqua Wielders- specializes in manipulation of water and liquids.

Ignis Wielders- specializes in manipulation of fire and heat.

Aer Wielders- specializes in manipulation of air movement.

Terra Wielders- specializes in manipulation of earth and rock.

Metallum Wielders- specializes in manipulation of metals and organic compounds.

Flores Wielders- specializes in manipulation of plants and poisons.

Cosmic Energies: (Slightly more rare, but harder to master)

Lux Wielders- specializes in manipulation of light and healing.

Nox Wielders- specializes in manipulation of darkness and fear projection.

Illusio Wielders- specializes in manipulation of illusions

Forbidden Energies: (Extremely rare and off limits in the beginning of the Storybook)

Animus Wielders- specializes in manipulation of mind and body

Materia Wielders- specializes in spontaneous creation and matter

Chaos Wielders- Chaos energy is accessed only when a Wielders familiar is killed. It is all encompassing and Wielder loses any sense of consciousness and free will. Causes great destruction and usually kills the wielder within a short span of time.

Familiars Explained

Spoiler! :
Familiars are animal companions bonded to Wielders when they are first born and exposed to their power. They are conduits for magic, and prevent chaos magic from overtaking Wielders. They are soul bonded creatures that can communicate with their Wielder telepathically. The bond between a Familiar and a Wielder is sacred and not easily broken. To sacrifice your Familiar is to lose everything, and it is a fate worse than death.
Familiars typically come in smaller forms of animals. They are essentially travel size and can adapt their form to help in battle depending on the Wielder's strength. They can be any animal within reason, typically a representation of their Wielder's personality.

In the recent centuries with the decline of Wielders, Familiars have also become fewer and weaker. And when a Familiar is not bonded to a Wielder at birth, they either die out or transform into horribly wicked creatures when they are more powerful.
