General Premise

One of my less simpler plots and only story that I don't intend to write a sequel for...The Sorcerers of Hisderat is...complicated but also really, really simple.

When a briefcase said to contain a power that could destroy the world as we know it somehow is brought into the possession of 'the bad guys" its up to two agents to figure out whose side is right and stick to that...with perhaps some unlikely help along the way...as they all race towards said item. And of course the big question...is this item better off open or should it remain closed forever?

Current Word Count: 18,135
Expected Final Word Count: 100,000
Current Chapter Count: 6
Expected Final Chapter Count: 38
NaNo Target Word Count: 68,135
NaNo Target Chapter Count: 26

Position in Official Alphaverse Timeline and Setting

Settings In Story: (S.W.O.R.D HQ/ Abandoned Courtyard/ Vemlanyen's Residencies), Leasep, Hisderat, Earth/ Gibticy, Hisderat, Earth/ Casry, Hisderat, Earth
Offical Alphaverse Address: Hisderat, Ginrivian, United States of America, North America, Earth, Solar System, The Milky Way, 64/32/16/8, Light Division, Light Realm, Dimension 34, The Third Omegaverse. 2023 AD

Timeline Connection Point

This takes place simultaneously with the rest of my current stories (that's why they all be getting written together) and this one actually starts of around Chapter 20ish to 30ish of The Alpha Pack and it may or may not have a crossover right at the very end.

If you're following along with this story DO NOT read the spoiler. Don't give into the temptation.

Spoiler! :
It definitely will. The final climax of both stories happen at the same location and they shall meet.

A Voyage Among the Stars also takes place around this time but I already mentioned that in the other thread so not doing it again.

World

Its umm...Earth...not Earth as we know it, that Earth exists only in Dimension 36 (that's where all you humans reading this are from)...but basically the same place, same countries, same cities. The names are not all the same, they can vary quite a bit and geography is mostly the same but the level of infrastructure is a tad bit on the lower side. This is mostly due to this Earth, along with Earth's 16, 23, 48, 52 and 67 being one of the few Earths to boast of a higher magical potential.

To understand what that means I'm going to have to write a brief overview of the Alphaverse magic system. So here it is:

Magic in all of my Universes, is concentrated and exists as one of the six fundamental forces of reality: The Nova Force (Not that other Nova Force from Marvel). This force along with five other wraps around reality itself literally making up the fabric of spacetime as we know it, sort of like ribbons tying together a giant present. Now these ribbons are tied in places and so there are knots. Now depending on how much of a ribbon is present there is more magical power there.

And then each individual being has a certain affinity for magic. So there's an equation to determine how much magical energy someone can use and it uses these two specific constants; and individual's magical potential and the surrounding area's magical potential along with another universal constant that varies with the universe they are in. (In case you're wondering yes I have an actual equation for it...did I mention they call me The Human Calculator in school)

So based on this most Earth's have very low potentials but those specific Earths I mentioned its much higher because they are closer to those knots. And because of that even though humans as a species has one of the lowest average potentials to magic the world values are high enough that they can use it.

Too long didn't read...this is Earth, with slightly different country and city names and magic.

And of course magic has an effect on the world as a whole. Its become a skill almost, with some being better at it than other, people having more stamina for it etc. And yes in my world, magic does not directly effect your physical energy as it considered purely magic so its entirely possible for you to be totally exhausted magically but physically be in peak condition.

So anyway magic spells are divided into various categories and are integrated into education for various fields. The best example that's seen in the story would be the doctors who'd go to medical school where they learn most of what regular doctors learn but also several spells so thinks like painkillers are all magical and most small injuries can be healed instantly depending on how good your doctor is.

So with magic being a thing, some fields of technology especially things such as Medical Engineering are much less developed because of the use of spells while on the other hand other areas develop further due to technomagical engineering where magic is used to deal with some of the problems that are considered impossible with normal materials so its a bit of a mixed bad and at 2023 Earth is a complex place.

Things like vehicles rare because anyone capable of teleporting would never use one but on the other hand thing like TV are much better because signals can be synced to teleport right to your TV making static non existent as the signals have to travel on a couple of feet.

The areas that we explore in this novel are mainly divide into three cities.

Leasep

It has the headquarters of the agency that the agents are from, the apartment that Terry lives in and the headquarters for the gang that started all of this in the first place.

Apartment Complex - Vemlanyen's Residencies

We barely have two scenes here so I won't go into detail. The biggest thing that this whole setting does is that its name is an anagram of a major plot twist...so y'all want to figure that out...good luck.

Other than that it's just a regular apartment building, just with enchanted walls that is keeping the crumbling concrete together, a magical portal system that is used as a cat flap and Terry's specific one has a bathroom door which happens to be an emergency escape portal.

S.W.O.R.D. (Strategic Worldwide Operations and Reconnaissance Division) (Hey its better than what S.H.I.E.L.D stands for) Headquarters

The entrance is located in a bookstore, there's a specific that you have to pick up which recognizes the correct magical signature and lets you in. There you will see three elevators leading to the headquarters itself.

This is split into three major sectors, the operations division, the healthcare division and the reconnaissance division.

Healthcare Division

Its basically just a medbay, a few intensive care units, two operating theatres and a storage space. Its used to treat agents that come in and is run mostly as an emergency unit although its not uncommon to go there to take something for a flu. Other diseases are usually dealt with at a regular hospital.

Operations Division

This contains offices for the more higher ranking agents, the armory and the agent's lounge. The armory contains offensive weapons ranging from guns (yup those are pretty effective, only the best of the best can create shields powerful enough to block those) to swords (yup they still use the old fashioned stuff...but that's usually only the ones that are good enough to block bullets...most agents would use a gun or just magic). There are also several levels of body armor, most of them magical and designed to just be like regular clothing both for comfort and for blending in. (This is like a Kingsman style agency but officially recognized by the government as in they have official licenses approved by the government but its owned and run privately as a separate entity outside of the government's influence). They do also have proper ballistic vests or full metal armors for the really serious missions where disguises are unnecessary.

Reconnaissance Division

This contains the areas for breaking through any cursed objects, the rooms dedicated for tracking devices, the three satellites that the agency owns and also where they do most of the research for missions. It also has mission control rooms to run active operations where the agents need to stay in touch with base and also a small holding area to interview suspects or those that are arrested on scene before being transferred to a proper prison.

Gang Headquarters - The Seon Order

Their compound is a lot loss organized being built as a simple long hallway with doors leading off to the separate sections. Right at the end of the hall is the office of the dude who runs the place. And along the hallway are door leading to a very low budget medbay, a small reconnaissance area, a tiny armory, a couple of training rooms and a few abandoned storage spaces. Its comprised mostly of criminals and operates among the gangs in the area of Leasep which is one of the lesser populated poorer parts of Hisderat.

Gibticy

If you're following along with this story DO NOT read the spoiler. Don't give into the temptation.

This is the more populated hub of Hisderat. We will visit a couple of key locations here.

Spoiler! :

The Hidden Library on top of The Regular Town Library - The Hasra Library

Its a library...and that's about it. Well...you have your regular library, a big one, four stories with around 30 giant bookshelves on each level and that's mostly all they have. There is a magic based search system on each floor but that part doesn't really get used so I won't go into detail there. And right at the very top is a bookshelf with a door, triggered by a specific pattern of tiles on the nearby wall and a couple of specific books being lifted off the shelves.

And this door leads to a small ladder leading to a structure built between the top floor and the roof, and is built right into the frame of the building surrounding that top floor, making it very narrow. And on each side there is one bookshelf, each housing some of the more obscure and powerful texts.

An ancient tomb for the Order of Wesomenensas located under a shopping mall - The Rorhor Tomb

The shopping mall itself is a standard ol' shopping mall but in its library is a another hidden door (I promise that's the last door hidden in a library...the story is that the first time a hidden door was used in a library was for the Hasra library and these two copied that idea 'cause they thought it was cool)

This leads you to a giant chute that used to have a feature to form a staircase but now its broken and down this chute you find the old headquarters of the Order of Wesomenensas or at least its remains. You can skeleton of an old armory and a medbay but its mostly converted in a giant tomb structure that houses the remains of every agent that belonged to it, all of whom perished doing some other important things.

Casry

If you're following along with this story DO NOT read the spoiler. Don't give into the temptation.

Spoiler! :
In here are located The Casry Woods, a giant forest haunted by the spirits of the dead and several mutated animals. They will encounter all sorts of these apparitions and the occasional demon because why not. I'm not going to spell all of those out here but the main things they will encounter will be some giant dog things, bat like cow things, monkeys and regular ghosties.

At the center of this forest is the real good stuff. It leads to a door that is carved into the side of a small rocky hill. This door houses a portal that leads to the dimensional doorway from the world of the living to the world of the dead, aka that thing that the Alpha Pack will have to look for and the place that these guys will also visit and the two stories properly meet.

Of course two separate keys are required to get in here and inside is a giant monster in a massive chamber carved into the side of said hill and down. If they manage to kill that thing, they will find a door that needs opening, which leads to a tunnel that leads to a trapdoor through with is the room that houses the portal.

That will lead to the final and craziest location where the final battle will go down, a giant asteroid that houses that aforementioned doorway, in a planet riddled with many ancient monsters, ghost guardians and just a general permanently dark desolate world. I won't go into too much detail for it because well that's yet to be completely fleshed out. I want to see exactly which things will match because this is quite a important place in this universe and right now its yet to get a 100% clear description. At any rate this is the final act so we probably won't get there at the end of NaNo anyway.

Just about closing out Act 1 here and setting up what will drive Act 2.

And so the favorite bit is the very first prophecy I wrote that is not for fanfiction

That which you seek
shall be found,
in a place most bleak,
and eternally bound.

To find the door, you must seek,
a place meant not for the meek,
west of the trees that speak,
and south of the stained creek,

If you, traveler has the gall,
and are the one among all,
then you must heed the call,
and be ready for the pall.

Favorite bit of the day...some Harry/Rose stuff. They are totally just friends right? Honest mistakes happen.

She suddenly got up from her chair, grabbing his hand and dragging him along.

"Hey. Wait a minute. Do I look like a rag...?" he protested as she came to a halt right in front of the map.

"You're a genius Harry," she said, "it is magic writing."

"I was jok..."

"And of course, cracks why didn't we think of those," she said, shaking her head.

"Look I..."

"Magic Cracks. Ahh...how could we all be so stupid?" She gave herself a knock on the head for food measure.

"Okay, you're not making any sense," said Harry.

"Very true Harry," said Clara, turning away from the map, "now what exactly possessed the two of you to come running over here and why are you holding hands?"

Harry looked down at his hand and realized that neither of them had ever let go. That got Rose to stop her verbal diarrhea as she also looked down at their hands.

She looked up at him, right into his eyes, a smile on her rapidly reddening face. Harry was sure that he looked about the same.

Favorite Bit:

Ahhh...another mysterious riddle...and a touch of conflict…just enough to hopefully get le readers asking just a few questions...nothing that'll call attention to it though so its super in the background but I cackle as I foreshadow the plot twists to come...and of course now that both mysterious riddles for act two are done...some real fun stuff coming up as we are now properly into Act 2 of this.

Here lies the great athenaeum,
that dwarfs the old museum
Search among the times past,
for the few words that last.

Within these halls of gold,
wherein many tales do unfold,
lies one tale that is untold,
within a sanctum of old.

If thou doth seek,
this place of wisdom,
find the key of the bleak,
and a tale of freedom,
from the son of a car,
that lies now in a jar.

But to open the hall
around the ancient wall
find the start of Catalan
among the dark granite
do not fear colors that wan
nor the letters of the night.

Inside the gilded halls
around the ancient walls
lies the first key to the pall
into which thee must fall.

"In my contact with people I find that, as a rule, it is only the little, narrow people who live for themselves, who never read good books, who do not travel, who never open up their souls in a way to permit them to come into contact with other souls -- with the great outside world."
— Booker T. Washington, Up From Slavery
