Spoiler! :

transcript:

hello fall i welcome you with soft loving hands spread open like your orange-tinted leaves, you sound like riding bikes up and down an old road in friendly contest with family and friends i loved, allowing myself to get buried in leaves buried in sentimentality the cement is cracked from summers wear of footprints and bike tires, wearing me and the road the same,
do you remember, i learned how to drive a motorbike and feel free i had shaving cream battles and a mud-pie baking contest in the leaves, i chalked the sidewalks and played
my heart out with dolls in the weeds, i look back with smiles and i can't help but laugh at the dance contests and jokes of the past,

but now it is different, because i no longer live there and now fall doesn't sound the same,
it's tune is a little off kelter even though it's been four years adjusting i still think fall sounds like,
hidden laughter in a place i no longer belong and now i'm cracked
but the concrete has been repaired, without me there,
and those trees with those softly descending leaves have been dead for so long,
so long, to hiding tin foil bowls in the trees with honey meant for the fairies
and by some magic finding them empty upon my return,
good bye to hummingbird feeders and marker bathing suits, cutting a dolls hair because
"summer was too hot on her phew, and she likes the look",
goodbye to writing friends letters on sticky notes and hiding them on their lockers,
goodbye to helping mean people with their homework because they told me i was smarter,
goodbye to my friends and family coming over every summer and every fall,
good bye to young me and her blissful stage when i thought i was the perfect daughter,
and everyone's best friend - i learned a lot since then -
but i miss the gentle words, she heard in the wind....

i will always see early autumn in shades of
empty skeleton faced bags empty wrappers and
stomach-sick candy corn crunching
i could never stand tootsie rolls
but that never stopped me

seasonal pumpkin pie snacks
and signature coffee
pumpkin pie spice really goes crazy
though if it were so wonderful surely people
would notice it exists in summertime too

the spices leave a warm hum in your nose
and a flush in your face
as your tickled tongue tries to remember how to taste
but candy which to children is first place
covers your senses up in a sweetened glaze

have you ever noticed that pumpkin pie smells akin
to gingerbread crusts butter-wet
even though it lies atop it the smell
sweet and subtle allows the bread to have representation

walking down a path
leaves crunch
softly patting feet
and then a rustling bush
mother says "hush,
something's following us"
she thinks 'don't be silly nothing is
following us'
hurrying down the hill
twigs snap leaves are crushed
baby don't look back
small feet still pat
"mommy
something's following us"
she sighs "not another word"
branches snap
feet pat
baby doesn't look back
keeps running
trees crack
in the house
the door smacks shut
"oh god baby something was following us"
they lock the door
rap rap rap rap rap
tip tap
looks out the window
sees something black
run back into the woods
"darling lets just
stay inside until
your father comes back home..."

you two were already having
a great time before i came
so of course i felt
overcompelled to play
my darling part to the maximum
from the start and
unnsurprisingly i fell and then
i fell apart almost

like a bubble bursting
a choppy silhouette

i could still see
your shadows dancing
long after i fell
when suddenly i noticed
the faintest ghostly hand
as you patted my withered skull saying
"brother you did well"

you steal my breath
and help it come
you halt my step
and create friction when i run
you blow the newspaper off the table
into my face you never forget to
move my hair out of place
you spread dandelion seeds
for a million of your spiteful things
you do good deeds

but i'll never forget
the tornadoes you made
and the tides you helped sway
you're a natural disaster
the original antihero

you sweep me up off my feet
and then set me in the
ocean to sink
as delightfully as you spin
there are daggers within
moving at lightning speed
and i know as peaceful as you can be
you are turbulent just like me

so when you blow the leaves
i reach out my hand
and i'm not afraid
because i know you can
respond to me
so softly
and you do
as the leaf lands

while i was waiting
she came snaking
here and there
blipping in and out

i kept my eyes closed
i didn't want to know
to see her faceless white shroud
her hair was all black

even with my eyes closed
a body still knows
when it may be attacked
and on end, my hairs stand

there she is waiting
my mind says standing behind you
her hair still a drape
under it is a hideous void face

she waits on you
she needs you to see her
and not in glimpses like you usually do
she wants full eye contact

and when you look at her
the skin will melt away from
where her eyes should lay
and there will be nothing

but soulless black
her jaw will be slack
like a snake preparing for a meal
but she won't harm you

not physically
she can't touch you
but she will make you see
everything that made her be

and her bones will crack
then she will scuttle back
and climb through the crack in the ceiling
you'll be forever stuck with the feeling

that she is there
and she won't leave
and every time your eyes close you won't sleep
because you know she is closer
every time you close your eyes

We are not to simply bandage the wounds of victims beneath the wheels of injustice, we are to drive a spoke into the wheel itself.
