The 2018 Writing Olympics

Ten Events on Eleven Consecutive Days
Do you have what it takes to be a YWS Olympian?

What's going on?

Beginning February 9th and going through February 18th, the Young Writers Society will once again be hosting our very own Writing Olympics! Each day there will be a new event with events lasting only 24 hours. On the last two days, there will be an epic scavenger hunt calling for you to scour the deepest depths of YWS for answers!

Winners and Prizes

For each event, there will be a gold medal, a silver medal, and a bronze medal. Gold earns you 3 points, silver earns you two points, and bronze earns you a point. At the end of the Writing Olympics, these points get tallied up and the top three are announced. This means that it is definitely possible to never earn a gold medal but still finish first overall!

There will be participation badges and badges for the winners, as well as bragging rights!

Teams!

You can also form and create your own teams. To start a team, simply create a topic in the Writing Olympics forum. Here's an example from the 2016 Writing Olympics:

A team can be open or closed -- it's completely up to you. At the end of the Writing Olympics, the points earned by the individual team members will be added up, and this will be used to determine the winning team (this will be decided by points per capita rather than overall points). The winning team will earn bragging rights for all!

Please note that is absolutely not necessary to join a team, and that teams exist mainly for moral support.

@izanami you (and others) should only be joining one team, so choose wisely!

izanami, I don't think there's a limit to how many people can be on a team, but teams with very large numbers will be at a bit of a disadvantage (sort of) since it's scored by points per capita. (doesn't mean they won't have a ton of fun though!)
so if a team with twenty members earned 10 points total, they'd end up with half a point as a team, I guess? but if a two member team earned four points their team score would be two, which is more than a half, so despite having fewer points, the two member team would still win. I think that's how it works anyway, and I hope this answered your question well!
Instead, he said, Brother! I know your hunger.
To this, the Wolf answered, Lo!

Yep! Thanks! I think that I’m only going to have 5-10 people so I’m fine :)

@Danni88 - Do you mean the next event, or the next time we'll run a whole Olympics like this? The second event is happening right now, and after all this is over the next time we'll do it again will be in 2020. :D
We're all stories in the end.
