Questions? Comments? Just want to talk about Japanese poetic forms?

This is the place.

If you have a question about how to go about writing a modified haikai, tag me with the @Kyllorac tag and I'll be happy to answer.

FAQ

Do I have to include a certain number of 5/7/5 or 7/7 stanzas?

Nope! So long as the first stanza is 5/7/5, the last stanza is 7/7, and there are 36 total lines, you can use as many (or as few) 5/7/5 or 7/7 stanzas as you like in whatever combinations work for you.

You will need at least two 5/7/5 stanzas though, because 3 is not an even number. ;P

If you're having trouble figuring out how to structure your modified haikai, here's a few suggestions:

I think this has been the hardest one so far. >.<
We're all stories in the end.

I think of you as a fairy with a green dress and a flower crown and stuff.

Can we based it on something real, like Naruto Shippuden, or any other anime/game?

Fun fact: mine was inspired by my work email asking me "Did you find what you were searching for?". If you're curious, I didn't, but it inspired the poem. It was only afterwards that I realized it was supposed to be humorous. Can't really think of how to change it, but I suppose the entire concept of a search engine acting as armchair philosopher is funny, in a way.

I'm with you there... :shock: after looking at the other haikais, I feel like I can easily get a medal made of dirt, but nothing better than that.

@Lightsong

There are no restrictions on the subject or source of inspiration. So long as the haikiai is humorous and follows the structure requirements, it will count.

Tons of cowering! Plus your name in the summer programme. A custom-designed banner. A cabin at Camp Half-Blood. Two shrines. I'll even throw in a Kymopoleia action figure.
