The 2014
Winter Writing Olympics

Ten Events on Eleven Consecutive Days

Do you have what it takes to be a YWS Olympian?

What's going on?

Beginning February 8 and going through February 18, the Young Writers Society will once again be hosting our very own Writing Olympics! Each day there will be a new event with events lasting only 24 hours. On the last two days, there will be an epic scavenger hunt calling for you to scour the deepest depths of YWS for answers!

Winners and Prizes

For each event, there will be a gold medal, a silver medal, and a bronze medal. Gold earns you 3 points, silver earns you two points, and bronze earns you a point. At the end of the Writing Olympics, these points get tallied up and the top three are announced. This means that it is definitely possible to never earn a gold medal but still finish first overall!

First place will win a $35 gift certificate to the store of their choice (provided that it can be bought online)
Second place will win a $25 gift certificate
Third place wins a YWS coffee mug

Teams!

You can also form and create your own teams. To start a team, simply create a topic in the Writing Olympics forum. Here's an example from the 2012 Writing Olympics:
Writing Olympics Team ROR ^^

A team can be open or closed -- it's completely up to you. At the end of the Writing Olympics, the points earned by the individual team members will be added up, and this will be used to determine the winning team (this will be decided by points per capita rather than overall points). The winning team will earn bragging rights for all!

Please note that is absolutely not necessary to join a team, and that teams exist mainly for moral support.

Questions?

Fire away!

Yes; what kind of events are we talking about?
For I who am poor have only my dreams
I spread my dreams under your feet . . .

. . . tread softly for you tread on my dreams.

Sounds fun! How does submission work? (Is it like other contests?)

@buggiedude2340, each event will have all of the information in it, so keep your eyes open! The judges will tell you if they want you to post in the thread, submit as a work, PM it to them, etc. ^^

Writing challenges you say? That is certainly interesting! :pirate2: It all depends on the event, but I'm definitely excited for such a competition.

How many Writing Olympics does YWS organizes per year generally?

I am so totally in!

Millions of miles from home
In the darkness before the dawn
In the swirling of this storm
When I'm rolling with the thunder
But bleed from thorns
Leave a light, a light on.

Where will the days' challenges will be announced?
Nevermind. Figured it out.

New question though, what are the rules? Is there a limit on how high it can be rated? Does it have to be E for everyone?

Why is a raven like a writing desk?

You aren't an official writer unless you're at least slightly mad.

@Dragonette There will be different rules for different events, so just take note to what they say when posted! :)

They each start on midnight GMT and last for 24 hours. During that time, people can submit their works, and a day or two after that, the results are up c:
