I've always taken this to mean that you may not use any word that has an E in it. However, I have seen people "simply writ* lik* this" to avoid using an E. Which is correct?

yea, you can't use any words with the letter e., not just blank out e's in words, otherwise, there's no challenge in that!

I would like to do a story about someone who realizes that none of his friends are saying the letter e. This would require that in the character's dialogue I would have to use words that have e in it, but leave out the e. Outside of dialogue I won't be using any e's. Would this be okay? Or would I still be disqualified?

Nope, you can't use the letter e at all.

@WritingWolf you could refer to 'e' as the letter before f or after d or something like that in a way that it would work.

Actually, I think I worded my prior post poorly, I believe I made it sound like I still wanted to use e's, just only in dialogue. But I was actually referring to something along the lines of what ongoeslife was talking about. I wouldn't be using e, but I'd be using words that should have an e. So when the characters talk to each other they would either leave out the sound, replace it with another vowel, or use a similar sounding word. For example here are some e words that might be included, and how they would be altered to accommodate for not saying e...

Like would become lick.
He/she would become hi/shi.
Because would become b'causa.
Have would become hav.

Because it is in dialogue, I would consider this some strange sort of speech impediment or accent, and then assume that it would be okay. But because of what Elinor said to ongoeslife I am doubting this. So I was asking if it was okay, but I believe I worded that poorly.
