earth

find your place among the rest of us,
i hope for your sake it’s easy.
to fit comfortably in your own skin is a gift
not many people are given.

put your mind at ease and watch,
it’ll get better with time, if you let it.
while you make peace with everything around you you’ll realize
it’s only yourself you’ve left unforgiven.

spring interlude

why do you lie and pretend you hate hugs
when you’re always the last to let go-
act like you hate showing feelings
and emotions?
you’re not fooling anyone, you know.

it can be kind of hard,
learning to tell- not just show,
but give them a chance to hear it
and watch how their eyes will glow.
"Love is the name for our pursuit of wholeness, for our desire to be complete."
-Plato's Symposium

shaded trees

when we crack open the window we can finally
feel the breeze
that’s been longing to get in and keep us company.
peek through the screen and look outside,
watch how the birds claim the sky and the
ants the dirt.
i sit back and wonder
what’s my place on earth?
i’ve been at the tipping point so often,
so close to going under.
if i died here tonight,
how much would i have left to wonder?
"Love is the name for our pursuit of wholeness, for our desire to be complete."

the third

the calm before the storm,
is that how it goes?
wrapped up in our feelings like presents with bows.
you came over to me
with the sweetest of woes.
now we walk different paths- move around as two ghosts.
"Love is the name for our pursuit of wholeness, for our desire to be complete."
-Plato's Symposium

v

i’ve watched people vanish;
physically they’re there
but emotionally they’ve disappeared.
how often does the villain get to feel like a victim?
are they allowed to be excused for their sins
for a brief moment of vanity?
do they shed tears in vain since they’ve
caused them just the same?
maybe we’re stuck measuring their value by the
vacant look in their eyes rather than
the vacant spot where their heart should be.
"Love is the name for our pursuit of wholeness, for our desire to be complete."
-Plato's Symposium

fine wine in the summertime

slow sips, looking at the stars above me,
clouds teasing the sight of worlds so far away i couldn’t
even reach them in my dreams.

loose lips of mine ask if you love me,
one reason after another says you shouldn’t-
but your eyes say different it seems.

like the wine we sip, as your hands are in mine,
that smile of yours only gets finer with time.
"Love is the name for our pursuit of wholeness, for our desire to be complete."
-Plato's Symposium

drown

everyday i seem to understand,
that the more i think i know
the more i realize i don’t.
in a world far too big for me to ever explore
i still manage to see how small it is
when i search for more.
the highest mountains can scrape the sky
and the deepest water will touch the core-
and in between them, regret echoes in my thoughts
for wondering if life had always been chore.
"Love is the name for our pursuit of wholeness, for our desire to be complete."
-Plato's Symposium

Spoiler! :
i have been quietly lurking in your thread and now i leave a comment and then i shall return to lurking amidst beautiful veeren poetry 'til the end of napo c:

Okay for real though, I love how simple and to-the-point your poems are (you're also a pro? at subtle and natural rhyme schemes??? like waaaaat). And you're so so good at using rhetorical questions in your poetry, it has this beautiful way of drawing the reader in making them feel really invested in the story <3

the only path i have is forward but
i only think of rewinding.
!!!! aaaaaaaah veeren you have no business writing such relatable lines

L -> ASDFLKSGJSFASDFASDF I ADORE ALLITERATIONS AAAAAAAH THIS POEM IS :'))) (also I have synesthesia so all those Ls are a lovely bluish-lavender colour to me and aaaaaah it's so pretty !! it matches the kinda mellow, lost tone perfectly)

i miss when home used to be a place and not a feeling.
OHO WHO GAVE YOU PERMISSION TO SAY SUCH POIGNANT THINGS???

wrapped up in our feelings like presents with bows.
<333

loose lips of mine ask if you love me,
I don't know why I love this line so much but something about the idea of "loose lips" just makes sense.

aaaah overall I adore this thread -- I think the themes of the seasons is super lovely and I really like how you've got the different seasonal imagery tying each group of poems together <3 you're also literally the master of bittersweet poems about love?? if you ever wanna like, share some of the talent, lemme know >.>
When you're faced with something you don't understand, I think the most natural thing but also least interesting thing you can be is afraid.

air

the wind catches me off guard
when I find myself zoning out.
i’m reminded that while I may not exist for a brief moment,
the world around me keeps spinning.
the breeze fills my head with questions as it drifts away;
what else goes on amidst my blissful ignorance?
the strangers i pass, do they simply float along like leaves in the wind?
i wonder if it’s the air that gets to pick and choose
which ones get blown off course.

summer interlude

what a sloppy job we've done at allowing ourselves to be human,
with every tear met with pushback and
every laugh feeling undeserved.

we pick at every joy we have-
as if to want is a sin.
i hope we learn to hate the thought that we don’t deserve to be happy
as much as we hate ourselves for being happy.

salty wind

you tread carefully over the sand, knowing each grain holds a story,
yet a bit still clings to your feet as you walk.
all the nights spent laying on it
gazing at the stars,
all the blankets used to muffle the secrets we shared with one another,
and all of the days we sat and stared at the horizon
in silent company.
the air has a new taste here but i think it’s just the weight of
the stories that live on here even after we’ve left.

the fourth

selfish thoughts kept me in awe,
wondering what’s left to believe in-
butterflies and thoughtful lies
we shared without a reason.
a pretty smile and words so kind,
on the surface so very pleasing.
a surprise you can still walk around untroubled
with a heart so cold it’s freezing.
"Love is the name for our pursuit of wholeness, for our desire to be complete."

e

do you hear the echoes?
how they ring in your ears?
each sound lasts for an eternity and we wait
patiently
every time for the end to come.
but will it ever?
bruised as we are from emotional scars,
we don’t worry if they’ll fade away.
we simply hide to avoid getting more
since we’ve already expected these to stay.
"Love is the name for our pursuit of wholeness, for our desire to be complete."
-Plato's Symposium

What a piece of work is a man! How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty, in form and moving how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god -- the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals!
— William Shakespeare
