the past will define us, and the future is still a while away but the memories of our past will still come out to play. for better or for worse, while they'll be here to stay, it's comforting to know we've made it through all of our worst days.

i hate how quickly the warmth of a cup of coffee fades- yet i cherish the small few moments of the heat in my palms. the smoke on my face. the burning inside me as it goes down after each sip.
it's the simplest reminder i have to enjoy the moment while it is still there, not after it has left.

even more than the feeling was the thrill of thinking “maybe i made it.” thinking maybe it would last, because the fear of losing something you waited so long to get was stronger than the reality you fought to repress that it was no longer even worth holding on to.
