Thanks for the compliments! The half hourglass was entirely unintentional, so thanks for pointing it out - I'm definitely going to make it more defined in rewrites.

Edit: As of December 22nd, 2020, all of the poems in this thread have been edited out. They all appear in a poetry book I'm self-publishing, so I thought it would be best to take them down from the site. Thank you to everyone who read the poems as they came out, and I hope you enjoy any future poems I write for future NaPo challenges!

Spoiler! :
Your April 24th poem, part i - adulthood, was so touching. I see a lot of myself in that piece, as my 20th birthday is coming up in June (which is more than a month out, but that's beside the point) and I've definitely lost the excitement for birthdays that I used to have. And considering the situation we've all been in for a while now, having a birthday doesn't feel like it used to (at least for me).

All of your latest works are lovely, and I'm glad to see you're still pushing through. Just 4 more works, you've got this! :)

april 28th, 2020: heroics and friendships

i wrote a poem
about how i only respected
a single hero--
my hero, the hero
that i discovered
before i saw him
swing across the big screen.

but that was before
a fateful walk
across campus,
the cool air biting
at our cheeks.
i didn’t understand
most of what you said,
but i nodded along
and listened to
a girl i knew
would be my
newest friend.

you taught me
that the beauty of heroes
is shaping the flawed
into your own creation.
and, more importantly,
the best heroes
are the ones
that your friends
help you
discover.

The 27th of April poem was beautiful! I see myself in it because I'm easily attached to the characters I've read from books! Love this lines in the poem:

the real world feels distant
as i mull over
a theory never proven
or disproven.

'cause this is me every time I finish a book
If you want some sweet reviews to your poems, short stories, and essays, come by Katteelogue.

Have a lovely day❤️
