2019 NaPo Information Central

Welcome to National Poetry Writing Month 2019 we're glad you're here!

Some people will come away from the month with 30 or more poems, some maybe 1 or 5, whatever your NaPo journey and goals look like for you, we wish you the best! National Poetry Writing Month isn't about the quantity or really even the quality of the poetry produced, but is about stretching your poetry writing and celebrating poetry. To accompany your journey we've put together some workshops, jams, and resources for you.

Below you'll find the links for all the NaPo threads and events. You should also feel free to use this thread for posting encouragement to fellow NaPo participants, or posting links to the jams, contests, or workshops that you are hosting! Let us know how NaPo is going for you, and what you'd like the community to know! Subscribe to this thread to make sure you're up to date with any important NaPo announcements.

Hey poets! Happy first day of NaPo!

The sign-ups & information for April Madness are posted - if you'd like to join we have 16 spots - and the deadline is April 5th. You don't have to be participating in NaPo to join in April Madness, though the poems for the competition must be written in April.

April 15 of National Poetry Month!
Whoa-ohh we're halfway there!

Image

How are the NaPo Goals going? Are you right on target? Need to revise? Or looking for more inspo?

* Don't forget the Poetry Jam Club is your spot to watch for Poetry Jams - and you're welcome to post your own if you don't see one posted! Writing with others is a great way to stay motivated and get some ideas.

* Check out the Contest Thread if you haven't already, to see what sorts of badges you can earn during NaPo this year. There's even one for completing 15 poems this NaPo. :)

* Keep up those comments in the threads and encouraging each other. We're all in this together!

There's still time to get some poems written! Watch-out for a Poetry Jam this Saturday with prompts and encouragement!

Also did you know that this year there's a badge for getting 15 poems written? I'm noticing a lot of folks are very close to being able to get that badge! :D

Check out the rules for claiming badges: here.

And for those going for 30 poems - you've got this!! We're on the home-stretch!

Greetings poets! The end of National Poetry Month is just about here!

But can we finish our NaPo goals?

Bob the Builder knows.

Believe Bob.

Good luck poets! You can do this. Here's some last minute prompts if you need them!

Remember haikus, nonets, and lanturnes are fun short poem forms if you need to get through some short poems but can't think of how.

You can also recycle lines from old poems to inspire you.

Or if none of those options work - 50 points for whoever writes a poem about potatoes and fireworks. Tuckster proved it can be done, and I'm pretty sure this is a marvelous prompt. :D

We made it! April 30th!

Congratulations to everyone who wrote a bit of poetry during National Poetry Month - from the first time NaPo writers, the normally-novelists, to the poetry veterans, and the last-minute-writers I've thoroughly enjoyed checking through the threads and seeing what you had to write!

As you finish up your threads, if you completed any of the challenges by writing 15 poems, 30 poems, a poem a day, commenting in 30 threads, or participated in 5 poetry jams/write-ins please collect your links and drop by the Contest Thread to claim your badge! We don't want to miss anyone who earned a badge this April.

It's been a fun month! Let's meet again next April, shall we?

How long do we have to put the links together? I have my thirty poems, but I completely forgot to put them together in a post there - when does it need to be up by?

@Magestorrow good question - if all of your poems are posted in your thread then you just need to put a link to your thread in the NaPo Contest Thread saying you've completed the 30 poems challenge and you're good to go! I'll breeze through the threads and double check that the numbers work out, so there is no need to post a link to each individual poem if they're all in your thread. The only things that need separate individual links are the Garden Challenge (comment challenge) and the Poetry Jam master challenge.

We normally don't get badges out right away - so just try to get that done soon. :) Thanks! And Congratulations on completing NaPo <3

"The trouble with Borrowing another mind was, you always felt out of place when you got back to your own body, and Granny was the first person ever to read the mind of a building. Now she was feeling big and gritty and full of passages. 'Are you all right?' Granny nodded, and opened her windows. She extended her east and west wings and tried to concentrate on the tiny cup held in her pillars."
— Terry Pratchett, Discworld: Equal Rites
