dream of fire and shadow
with me
where only the darkest souls
are touched,
dragged down into the deep
and the dark
where only demons
reside.

of rot and corruption
upon them, where
scales and leather
lurks.

24. gods and devils

do you believe in
gods and devils?
or the angels and their
demons?
i believe in both
and neither;
i have my own demons,
my own devils
and very different kinds
of angels,
but when it comes to gods,
it begs a question;
am i a god or
am i a devil?

and monsters lurk

28. i don't belong

if i don't belong in
heaven's gilded halls
or hell's burning pits
where do i belong?

why won't god or
the devil take me
to their favoured
realms if i don't belong?

maybe i should ask odin
and valhalla
or perhaps the gods
on olympus?

maybe i should ask hades
to guard my soul down
in elysium
or hela down in
niflheim to keep
me safe from limbo.

i don't belong in
heaven or hell,
or any other hall of
light or dark;
i belong in the place
in-between,
where shadows
and flames dance
interwoven
between fallen pillars and
broken hearths.

29. nilfheim

i should hope that
when i
cross the river styx
all the gods,
old and new,
will be waiting for me
and i
should hope that
when i meet them
at the river styx
that they will greet
me in kind
and show me all
the wonders of
niflheim.
