Spoiler! :
You are a child
twice my height and
half my weight
but with more steel in your body
than I have had in my life

You will bend beneath the rampant
gales of disapproving tyrants
and stand up to the metal beasts
which scrounge your world with char.

If ever there was a god among us
I held one today as I transported you
from your adoption center to your forever home.
Forever until the axe-man comes to grind
or your older brothers cry atop you

but you will be our shield,
our nutrition, our luxury,
you will be our tree.

Spoiler! :
The Leaf Fae

The leaves swirl like a hurricane eye
dancing in circles around their invisible pole
drifting legs trickling along the floor
until they all settle back down
no longer amid their fairy lands.

The Lord of the Dance has left stage right
and they once again obey Gravity's tyrranical rule
since she wenched them from their homes
and scattered them among the grasses blades.

An execution which takes a year.

Spoiler! :
Every Day

Smiles plaster upon their faces
passing like mummies in the night
---------I want to scream as black lung claws
they button up coats, lace up shoes
brush off the April snow from frozen cars
---------There is nothing I can do but chain myself to a pole
She closes the door on her apartment
rubs her gloved hands and starts dinner
---------Please let me strike that pole as I careen into the ocean of trees
Instinctively, she takes two plates, cooks twice
too much, puts three tubs in the fridge for leftovers
---------Can I ignore the wails of misery from my neighbors?
She opens a bottle of scotch meaning for just a sip
twelve shots later, she's forgone the glass
---------The river blood will slosh from my soul for you
She awakes at a crack, squeaking, car sirens
barking dogs, silence. Back to bed.
---------I am nothing but your servant, a master of none
Brushed teeth, brushed hair, pruned self
Into the slush of tomorrow, brown with ick from roads
--------- I wish to live in a world where you do not exist, no materialism rules
Smiles plaster upon their faces
passing like mummies in the day

Spoiler! :
There are days I wonder
if somewhere in your heart
I have carved a shelf and stuffed
it with tiny memorobelia
like forks, pistols, and suits
or if you see me as desired

see me as an acquisition, a peg
a chance to gloat about what
you have accomplished in snagging me

I wonder if the lines are false,
as they are so obviously lines.
I love you since the day we dated
you are everything to me
the ocean, the sky, the universe

but I accept it.
I like the lines, even if they're fake
I like feeling special and you do that for me
I wonder if you're feeding these to others
or if you tried and they denied you
told you off for being fake, for lying
and that's why you insist that you don't.

I know you do, but I don't mind a liar.
I mind someone who takes themselves
too seriously, too much of a downer
too macho and strong and burly man
to handle being gentle and quiet and kind

I mind someone who would ignore me
when I ask them not to pick me up
someone who would taunt me, tickle me
when I'm begging them to stop, or taunt me
with my secrets, buy me spiders for my birthday.

You bought me ghosts instead.

Surround yourself with people who are serious about being writers, and who will tell you, ‘Hey—you can do better than this.’ Who will be critical of your work, but also supportive. And who will not be competitive in a negative way.
