Hey, it's Peiji!

I want to do this, but I'm worried about not having time. Oh well, I'll try my best!

I guess my goals are to 1. write thirty poems (obviously), 2. try something other than free verse, and 3. actually use the prompts I have written down.

I'm going to try to write a poem a day, but I'm not going to scold myself if I don't. As long as I get thirty poems written during the month, I don't really care exactly which day I wrote them.

I'll post poems here when I can.

Comments and reviews are always welcome! I'll try to respond if I can.

Well, I guess that's it!

April 1st

I hope Death is a gentleman when we finally meet.

I hope he’ll bow when he sees me, stay down for a moment, then cast his eyes up.

I hope as he rises, he’ll maintain his gaze, almost as if he cares for me.

I hope that he’ll place his gloved hand on my waist and draw me closer to him with a motion gentle yet strong.

I hope he’ll ask me to dance when we meet, whispering sweetly in my ear as we both start to sway.

I hope he’ll draw me into a sweet embrace, set my head against his chest, and stroke my hair.

I hope he’ll start to softly hum as my eyes close and my vow begins.

I hope he’ll quietly chuckle as he sets me down, flipping his coattails behind him as he kneels at my side.

I hope he’ll sweep his long hair behind him, exposing his face as he leans in for a kiss.

Isn’t it odd, how even in my dreams, he never showed his face until he knew I was already gone?

Isn’t it strange, how I never saw his face until after I swore to stay with him?

Isn’t it funny, that the only ones who’ve really seen him are those hopeless lovers of his, the ones you can never take back?

They say Death isn’t a lover, but I think to a soul marked like mine, he will be.

We are all destined to join him in the end, but some of us want to meet him more than others.

We want to leave the cold and cruel and instead be enveloped in his embrace of eternity.

We want to depart from the pain and sorrow, and instead feel the kiss of the everlasting.

I hope Death is a gentleman when we finally meet, and I hope for a moment, it seems like he cares.

About me, about my pain, the things they all didn’t see.

I hope he enjoys those moments with me, the dance, the kiss, the vow.

I know afterwards, he’ll forget me, as he forgets all those he takes, but I hope for a moment, a second, even, that he is happy to be with me.

I hope for a moment, we both feel no pain, and in that moment, are one.

April 2nd

Figurines line the shelves.

Posters cover the walls.

Unfinished cosplays are strewn on the floor,

and plushies lie on the bed.

I’m surrounded by all of these things,

and can feel nothing at all but comfort.

My phone is beside me, my playlist is on,

uninterrupted, because who would want to text this late at night?

Even if they did, I wouldn’t hear. Too many full combos have been ruined and too many boss raids interrupted for me to have the ringer on.

I’m in recluse mode, lying on the floor, no less,

with a volume of my newest obsession open, and every other issue stacked beside me.

This is the safest space for me to be.

This is the place where everything seems right.

Even just thinking about it makes me smile.

I want to go back to that place as soon as possible.

But nope, I still have school.

I’m not an absolute NEET, after all!

I’m just a complete and utter

weeb

April 3rd
(This is really just me messing around with idea of a poem that can be read forwards or backwards)

The woman is safe

away and gone.

Her husband

took control of her.

Her injured heart

continued to beat

and

he abused her.

————————————————

He abused her

and

continued to beat.

Her injured heart

took control of her.

Her husband,

away and gone

the woman is safe

April 4th

Lying on my back,

strapped down only by exhaustion,

numb from the drugs they’re pumping into me.

Unable to do much more than stare

at the images flashing all around me

that should calm me,

but just distress me more.

The music they are playing does nothing to block out the noise

of all the instruments awaiting me here.

I know I’m safe, but still

I can’t help but feel uneasy.

The drugs are hitting hard now, and

I’m completely in their power.

There’s nothing I can do

but close my eyes

and hope it’s over soon.

April 5th
It is an old typewriter beside a new laptop.

It is Rowling and Orwell with Shakespeare and Aesop.

It is petticoats beside t-shirts and sweatpants.

It is electronic music with traditional chants.

Progress doesn’t mean giving up all you once had.

It means using it as a sort of launch pad.

Learn from the things, good and bad, of the past.

Create something your own, all you love, holdfast.

The past or the present, you don’t have to choose.

Instead, take them both, create more and reuse!

Take a bit of traditional, vintage, and old,

along with the new, the cutting-edge, and the bold.

Progress isn’t about leaving things behind.

Progress is about all those things, refined.

Two Stupid Clerihews

Archbishop Thomas Becket
Didn’t want Henry to wreck it
Four knights came for the “meddlesome priest”
Now the archbishop is sadly deceased.

The Renaissance author Machiavelli
Hated the taste of jelly
He thought that it would deplete
His taste for political deceit

April 8th

Take the left fort, I’ll go for the myrmidons approaching our base.

Okay, regroup after that? It’s in our best interest to take the boss down together.

Yeah, but I probably should eliminate the summoners first.

Alright, then I’ll go ahead and take the West Fort too. There’s a dragon vein in there that might help you.

—————————————————————————-

Take that keep, stop the advance.

Save that villager when you have the chance.

You take the left, I’ll take the right,

eliminate all enemies in sight.

Escort the commander back to the base,

when the messenger appears, give chase.

—————————————————————————-

Orders like this, quickly shouted out.

Obeyed and followed without a doubt.

Two tacticians working in sync.

A coming victory, we’re on the brink.

Today’s the day to win this fight,

so we’ll continue to play all through the night.

April 9th

A Simple Nonet

A group seated around the table
sharing things we’ve experienced.
Our conversation goes on.
We start to open up
about our feelings,
about our thoughts,
who we are.
We feel
safe.

April 10th

How would it feel for your legs to collapse,

to be unable to walk anymore?

How would it feel for your arms to go limp,

and even lifting them being a chore?

How would it feel,

strong girl?

How would it feel for your lungs to give out,

to be suffocating, unable to make a sound?

How would it feel for your bones to crack,

and shatter like glass thrown to the ground?

How would it feel,

strong girl?

How would it feel to lose all that you are,

and become just as weak as the rest of us?

How would it feel,

strong girl?

Would they even pity you

or care enough to see

that you’re hurting

just like them?

Or would your former strength cloud their minds

and prevent them from seeing that your pain is mankind’s?

If you muster the strength to admit you have none,

would they write that off as a lie?

Would they ignore your cries for help,

would they just turn a blind eye?

How would it feel,

strong girl?

How would it feel to be powerless?

Three Quinzaines: Pretty Words and Odd Questions

(Carpe Diem)

My friends, we must seize the day.

Why must we seize it?

What’s today?

(Purity)

Purity is ladylike.

What is purity?

Am I pure?

(Church Bells)

The church bells are ringing now.

Do they ring for me?

Are they mine?

April 12th

A Tetractys About Conformity

Stay

in place.

Do not try

to fight against

the expectations society has

of who you need to be to be worthy.

Simply submit.

Change yourself.

Conform

now.

Do

not stay.

Continue

to fight against

the expectations society has

of who you need to be to be worthy.

Do not submit.

Do not change.

Just stay

you.
